Re: What are you Listening to right now?
The Jack Johnson Kokua festival at hone has been fun. G Love needs a better microphone. Lukas Nelson and Eddie Vedder were good. Awaiting Willie N.

I saw Robin Trower in Philadelphia in 1987 when the US Navy ship I was stationed on was undergoing an overhaul in the dry docks there. After the show I went and bought Bridge of Sighs. Funny...I don't FEEL old!

Ah but those of us who bought it in '74 do feel old...

This afternoon I've decided it's time to get to know Fiona Apple.

The "unreleased" version of Extraordinary Machine is still the work I like best from her. Her music needs less polish than it often gets in my opinion.

I think this new one shows what she taught Billie Eilish. Has its raw moments for sure. She's still the teacher I think but maybe I just don't understand the kids.

Jeff Beck - Blow By Blow. "'Cause we've ended as lovers" always blows me away.
Tom Waits - Foreign Affairs "I never talk to strangers" featuring Bette Midler is worth the price of admission.

Sort of a dark, emotional power-pop outfit. The members were in previous outfits that had a much more aggressive sound, but that is more fitting for on-the-bike listening. Morning coffee during a workless Monday warrants a different atmosphere. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NHaTYV6s-bo

Nope. I'm completely unfamiliar with her music, so I just started with Tidal, and am moving chronologically from there. After listening to When the Pawn Hits the Conflicts... I think I'm going to re-listen to these two before moving on.
Tidal was really good. Pawn is better. Makes me look forward to the next few. And, like everyone else, I'm hearing that Bolt Cutters is brilliant. So yay!

But she didn't seem like the right thing for a trainer session this morning. It turns out that OK Computer works quite well for 50-ish minutes of intervals.
And I see that Radiohead is making old concert footage available on YouTube. So there's more to queue up!
Re: What are you Listening to right now?
If you want to go down the radiohead rabbit hole a bit further ... KEXP's afternoon show on April 15th was about 2 hours of bootleg/b-side/remix radiohead songs followed by an extended interview with ed o'brien. It's in the show archive at kexp.org, kevin cole's show at 2pm I believe.

Extraordinary Machine was every bit as great as Pawn.
But Idler Wheel simply blew me away. How could she get better than Pawn and Extraordinary Machine? Fiona says: Hey, listen to this.
Bolt Cutter is still sinking in. It's raw and visceral and funny and deeply personal and unique.
So very glad to get to know you Ms. Apple. Sorry I ignored you for so very long!
