I've taken to wearing this on my new LeMond Revolution. It does wonders for winter weight loss. Plus, don't give me any of that cushy Mackinaw plaidy woolly shit, that's for SoCal winters and guys who like to sit on straight seat posts. There's never been anything as good as the original Tin Cruiser since before Simplex made derailleurs (and we took to the French spelling).

We used to wear the Filson tincloth pants in Yosemite. YC I suspect stole the concept for the original Patagonia climbing pants. Both were great. Also have an old Filson Mackinaw that although not plaid..is farking bulletproof and too warm for almost all Massachusetts winter weather. It excels if you are spending extended periods outside in wet snowy cold weather...I mean like days at a shot. Way nicer then any fiberpile garment and a lot more rugged. Have some Filson luggage that rocks, too. I know the co. has been sold in the last few years...wonder how the quality is. I am sure the prices went even further skyward.

Filson Oil Cloth is great until water vapor builds up on the inside ('cause it doesn't breathe) and forms sheets of ice.

If I were going to buy another Filson garment for my upper body that wasn't wool, I'd get the Dry Finish: http://www.filson.com/products/dry-f...taProduct=1011

    Timely post.

I was quite happy that I wore my double tin cloth pants this morning when my stihl kicked back right on my right thigh - it made it through one layer.
    Stuff it tough as crap.

Yeah, breathability is low - if you wear tin cloth you want it for the protection.

Filson and I were not getting along.

And then I found Filson Italy's "Black Label", and specifically their Miner jacket made for the Japanese market. Took some searching...

Very nice Eric! I have some older Filson stuff ('60s-80s) and it is awesome. Great fit, unbelievably well made and durable. Starting in the '90s the stuff went to shit. Wore right through the sleeve ends in 3 years of normal wear, etc. Now they are on to pen holders and crap like that so I officially don't get along with them either.

My issues were purely based on fit- I have XL arms on a S/M body at the best of times. That's essentially an inverse Filson fit. Around here the two places that sell the stuff cater to the mill guys, who I'm guessing are generally build more inline with their target market. They generally don't even stock options down in my size range. This is a 38, which yards smaller then the 40 Filson USA vest I have (in a good way). Trying to find someone to help me tailor the vest down.

That jacket look great, Eric. While I don't miss winter, I do wish I could get more use out of my jackets. I can't wear them out enough to justify adding something like that to the wardrobe. Nice find.
