Chain suck fin

Has anyone ever considered brazing a "fin" to under side of the RH chainstay to avoid the deaded chain suck
Was considering a design for my current build and thought I would check to see if i was re-inventing the wheel
The fin would have some small tapped holes which i would screw a plastic strip, the sucking chain would strike the plastic prior to jambing between the chain stay and chain ring

Under the stay, not on top, to reduce the chance of the chain jamming between the chain ring and stay. Not jamming between the stay and tire as the Shimano shark fin was meant to do.

In any case, a fin will not prevent chain suck. Chain suck happens, even on elevated stay frames, because of worn parts, poor lubrication, dirty drivetrains, and/or poor chainline.

Having the chain jam is a result of chain suck. Better to prevent the chain suck in the first place than trying to "fix" the result with add-on patches. The worst chain jams I have had were on bikes with anti-suck devices.

Yup, note the scrapes on the brake and stay where the chain jammed anyway.

I used to do this on our mountain bikes. I'd braze a plate with a couple of threaded holes that could take an aluminium plate that mirrored the profile of the chainrings. I think I saw Keith Bontrager do it first.

Just don't let the little plates get loose or you will have an exceptional one-time chainsuck.

The Ringle Anti Chain Suck Thing was the same idea. Worked well enough.
