The Seven Shoe Wardrobe
Saw this on the Internut, and thought it was a good shoe guideline/primer. I think my set-up tends to be less formal once you get past my black captoes. For me, the chukkas, which were some desert sand Clarks, have been replaced by my Alden boots, and my next big shoe purchase will be these crepe-soled penny loafers.
What changes would you make to this set-up?

Re: The Seven Shoe Wardrobe
adidas sambas. the perfect piece of footwear. equally at home on a light hiking trail, to the dive bar downtown, to the classy restaurant at night. these shoes just cant lose.

Re: The Seven Shoe Wardrobe
White canvas sneaks. . .whats the point. Zero (or damn near) arch support, they get dirty looking at them, and I just don't like em. :)
Add: Redwing boot of some variety, a nice set of Iron Rangers or 875's. Because, after all, sometimes you need to get some work done and that usually requires getting shit dirty and both of the above do quite well at pulling that off.
Delete: suede dress shoes. Just so limited in their use and with jeans. . .look like you're trying to prove something that you probably can't pull off anyway.

Re: The Seven Shoe Wardrobe
The second two pairs of dress shoes should be cordovan and walnut colored. Cordo Alden Grant-last longwings and walnut AE Strands would be a good combo. Otherwise, I have no real complaints about that list. It's a bit 'obvious' I guess. Dirty bucks could stand in for chukkas, but I like my desert boots and Cordovan Shell Alden chukkas, so I'll stick with that.
And Sambas aren't appropriate for a nice restaurant.

depends on the restaurant. my point being if you're traveling ultralight, and only bring one pair of shoes, you could do a lot worse than the sambas.

Ugh, sambas belong with umbro shorts, back in the early 90s.
How about these for simple: New Balance 565 - New Balance - US

I don't necessarily agree with the scene, but it has given me pause to consider:

Darren can wear those because he is Darren. He is Baller, not the shoes.

In case it’s not clear, Alden of San Diego is a single shoe enthusiast - Mike - and not an Alden retailer. By my estimate, he has around 140+ pairs of Alden’s, many of which are unicorns / unobtainium stuff. Great guy & knowledgeable.
PM me if you’d like details on good Alden retailers....I’m all about their shoes!
I have Carmina as well, but feel like nobody does shell cordovan better than Alden.

I can go to Alden's company owned stores in Boston or NYC (unless I shouldn't for some reason).
Will PM about Carmina.

Locations in Newton/Boston, NYC, and Denver should work. Might be a bit more than I want to spend on an everyday business casual shoe but even with the shoes I currently have, I still do not have the classic black cap toe oxford so I'll check them out.

Re: The Seven Shoe Wardrobe
They get it. I use Red Wing boot oil and Huberd’s Shoe Grease. These are about 15 year old boots, though it took a couple years to break them in, so more like 12 years of real wear. Frye “Prison” boots. New version of that style from Frye is not the same boot. Some kind of weird leather and cheap soles. I switched to a pair of Red Wings that are in the first year of the break-in process.

Green shoes go with everything.

Haha, yeah. Now that you mention it, I did have a pair of mid-green suede lazyman. Not sure what happened to that pair... They weren't exactly versatile, but whenever I wore them, they attracted comment.
I have a pair of desert boots in dark green Horween Chromexcel that I abuse and wear without giving much thought to whether they go with what I'm wearing above the feet. :)

No seriously - I think you can actually get a color that is so off-the-charts that it is its own statement. So what you wear it with doesn't matter so much. I used to have a bright yellow pair of wingtips (some Italian brand I bought in London) that were so crazy I could wear them with whatever. But my day job is not so conservative.
