We just watched the Taylor Swift doc.

I like her even more than before.

And Kanye W can kiss my ass according to my opinion.

can't recall if this one came up or not--and honestly it is not really binge worthy per se but an eye-opening (popping really) documentary on Netflix: "The Family" It is about a little-known but omnipresent and very powerful Christian cabal. For those of us who are suspicious of religion in politics, it's downright scary

They are offering a full month now so I signed up to watch Picard. I liked the first episode a lot. Episode two not as much. We will probably keep going.

Rule #1 of Tiger King: The people that love that show really love it and want everyone to see it. I have caught most of the first three episodes and it is definitely weird. Sorry if this is a spoiler but my favorite part has been that Joe Exotic had a custom EMS jacket. WTF?!?!

    Tales from the Loop.

Very good. Sad. Well made. Foreboding. Low dialogue. Quiet. Sweet.

Haven't started Tales from the Loop yet but that is good to hear.

Bosch - I'm not super into cop shows but liked it for the most part.

We watched a fictionalized biographical film based on the early life and career of the artist Gerhard Richter called "Don't Look Away" (American title - different in Europe.) The director also did the film "The Lives of Others" which dealt with Stasi spying on people in East Germany. This new film deals with a similar context, Richter (the main character's name is not Richter, having been changed to honor the fictional aspects) having been born in Dresden and lived there until he left for the west shortly before the wall was built. Very powerful film - horrifying and beautiful. It nicely presents the concept of artistic origins and the transition from autobiographical to universal as it pertains to moving an idea through the artistic process. Anyway, well worth seeing. May not be for rent yet but will soon.

Also the Metropolitan Museum had just opened a major show of Gerhard Richter's work about a week before NYC shut down, so hardly anyone got a chance to see it. But the Met has put a selection of the exhibited works online for viewing.

And they will start streaming a documentary on Gerhard Richter on Saturday April 11th (and then thereafter) titled "Gerhard Richter: Painting After All" which is also pretty fascinating. He is very interesting, whether you agree with him or not. He will definitely make you think. And think about thinking. And seeing.

Devs on Hulu is great. But then again, I like anything Alex Garland does.

Speaking of that, Annihilation on Netflix.

Years ago I went to see a play in the Village a schoolmate was the lead in. Siegfried sans Roy was sitting behind me and periodically growled at me during and after the show. Flattery got him nowhere.

I'm a little embarrassed but we've been watching New Girl for the past few nights. It's simple, we're laughing, and it's exactly what we need right now.

I don't know about binging, but Belgravia is like nasty downton abbey. It honestly deals with the nastiness of the social constructs of the era.

I've always been a sucker for period dramas in the UK.

1983 on Netflix. Creates a different chronology in Polish history where a revolution in 1983 after terrorist attacks, which may or may not have been perpetrated by the same people who are now in power, allows a totalitarian government to consolidate power based on safety over freedom. Takes place in 2003 and there are a lot of time shifts in the story telling, some very creative and astute uses of current anxieties (for example, the role of Vietnamese as secret power brokers.) As with most Netflix products, there are loose ends that feel like the writers forgot to edit them out OR are hoping for a second season so they are just throwing in threads now for later, but it is pretty solid otherwise.

And I am having fun trying to understand Polish with the remainders of my Czech language.

    So good.
I recommended it to my brother who has studied 1066 to 1317 for the past forty plus years. He stopped reading pretty quickly because he said it was all a matter of public record, eg the books were copy and paste of contemporaneous accounts by the principles, not fiction.

    But I enjoyed them immensely.

Watched the Beastie Boys “live documentary” by Spike Jonze. Pretty good. A little self-conscious but it had good moments, good memories, interesting details.

Sabotage is still the best primal scream ever in my book. Turn it on and destroy the house.

We're doing almost no 'binge watching' right now. With the shelter in place deal my wife (a nurse practitioner) is working her normal schedule (Mon-Thurs) while I stay home with the toddler. When she gets home we eat dinner, put the little one to bed, then I head in to the office to put in some time, and thankfully little lady sleeps in till about 8:30am most mornings so I'm still getting decent sleep. Friday's I'm in the office all day. SO. Our only time to watch stuff together is Fri/Sat/Sun night after the little one goes to bed around 8pm, and by 9:30 most nights at least one of us is drifting off to sleep.

That said, we've been working our way through Narco's Mexico and it's good, hope to wrap it up this weekend. Up next is Waco, which looks awesome. Both on Netflix.
