Obscure question for Covrt. I was in Golden for business about 15 yrs. ago. At some point I was driving around looking for a likely spot for dinner when I spotted a hand painted cardboard sign "SUSHI" that's all it said. What the hell? The place looked pretty new and was tucked into middle of nowhere, at the time, section of town. I sit at the bar and the head cheese asks me what I want? My reply is pretty standard "feed me" and a cold beer please. What followed was pretty damn incredible. The beers arrive one after another along with warm salty edamame than a series of warm up pieces consisting of sushi and sashimi and the ocassional hunk of toro he'd cut off a piece he didn't like. I don't remember that the middle was but I think it was all sashimi. IIRC the last pieces were smoked eel with a sweetish warm sauce.

    Go figure?

The sushi was world class, never had better. Any idea who that was?

Brilliant. We're only now getting the first good tomatoes, and I'm looking forward to the next two months.

About 10 days ago we did a watermelon gazpacho using some better canned tomatoes, and I was tempted to pour it into a pint glass and drink it.

Jealous. Our early tomatoes are still bright green. But we did just harvest the first garlic...

I'll admit I bought mine from the Midtown Farmers Market. Our farmers market that's a couple doors down from where the Third Precinct used to stand.

The grey unlabelled trianglish building at the southwest corner of Minnehaha and Lake, next to the Hook and Ladder, was the Third Precinct.

The farmers market, the cabaret theater, the anarchist bike co-op, and the book store are all rolling again even after almost everything around them burned. It appears that even rioters knew the primo institutions.

BTW, Prince grew up on South Snelling a couple blocks to the south.
