I'll always veer towards Snarky Puppy! My best riding buddy's father was a trombone player and professor at UNT until his passing a few years ago.

If I'm not mistaken the drummer in Clown Core is Louis Cole, probably best known as one half of Knower. Yes, insanely talented, and a super-tight groove machine.

There's another Clown Core video where they're performing inside a Port-A-John toilet. Hysterical.

There are also some Knower/Snarky Puppy collabs with Jeff Coffin (a sax hero of mine from his Flecktones days) out there. All good stuff. Probably the same session from that video above.

I have the albums and after getting acquainted with Knower/Louis Cole I was a little disappointed with their piece in Family Dinner. Louis Cole has such good drum chops and it sounds like they pushed him way back in the mix.

Post Malone is odd well beyond my comprehension. But dude is mega talented.

Here is is covering a Sturgill Simpson tune.

Here he is, along with Travis Barker (who's amazing) doing a Nirvana tribute. I don't know why he's wearing someone's grandma's dress, and I'm not really a Nirvana fan, but damn, this is good.

This is quite possibly my least favorite song by District 97, but for folks who accuse me of never listening to any genuinely "new" music at least its elapsed-time-from-release-date is still measured in hours:

Roxy Music, the first five albums. Better and better as they shed impressive sonic weirdness for even more impressive emotional connection. "Nightingale" into "Just Another High" is an unbeatable coda.

listening to this in the shop today

Garage a Trois (Skerik, Charlie Hunter, Matt Dillon, Stanton Moore)

    old Primus album

and another Charlie Hunter for good measure. I think each of his fingers has its own brain.
