    Default Seat Tube Reamers

    Hey Folks,

Other than Silva (a little out of my price range) or adjustable reamers, what options are there for seat tube reamers in the US?
I have an adjustable Chadwick 27.2 reamer that I was gifted (with chips in the blades from the orig owner) and am in need of a 31.6 reamer.

No one seems to have Cyclus in stock (I know I can get them from Ceeway).

I never ream seat tubes. I mean, why? I have a bit made from 1/4” stainless tubing with a slot on the end into which some A.O. Cloth is wound up. Essentially it’s a homemade hone chucked into my drill that evens out any burrs there may be. I haven’t used my Chadwick ream (it’s a ream - the user is the reamer) in over forty years.

I’ll find a pic of the bit and add it asap.

I had them regrind a pair of English 1.125" and 1.25" spiral flute reams to 27.2mm and 30.9mm. I'm sure they could do a 1.25" to a 31.6mm for you. Pricing was reasonable and less expensive than Silva by a long shot. The fee for regrind was between $75-85 I believe. Price of the reams was the expensive part and they used high quality spiral flute reams.

    Kris,

I forgot to ask, by English do you mean the direction of the flutes? Left vs right spiral? I know that the spiral direction helps with through hole vs blind applications. Is there another reason to opt for left handed spirals?

    Thanks!

You mentioned the Cyclus not being in stock- if they come back in I've had good luck with mine in several sizes.

Another option is to buy shell reamers and have them ground to whatever size you need by a tool sharpening service. The long Chadwicks can be nice, though.
