Large diurnal temp range on the east side. 90s/40s in Bishop when I was there a couple weeks ago, but the high country is below freezing at night now. The Inyo NF is open but keep an eye on the smoke forecast from the fires in Sequoia, it can get bad quickly with the right wind. You'd need wilderness permits to get into evolution valley.

Thanks Bruce…we were on a ferry and the end of a storm passed through as we were pulling in to dock in Portland (Maine)…tough to pass that sky up.

    Beautiful picture.

Portland, ME is what I had guessed for that. Seemed like the right mix of waterfront with larger buildings in the background, some on the small hill not too far away. My sister lived there for a few years, and now she's about an hour up the coast, so I've been there several times.

I've always found ME to be super-picturesque, but the roadie in me never really found anything that I fell in love with - the roads (or at least the ones I saw in our various wanderings) were generally in not-so-great condition, with no shoulder and a fair amount of traffic. I guess if I were going to be spending a lot of time there and wanted to ride I'd have to get the inside scoop from local riders.

Mice (et al) have been working on this since December. Almost finished. What is left in patches on the skull is actually that orange. Weird.

Convert that to black and white Jorn…reach for your inner Ansel Adams. It also might look good mount on your livingroom wall.

Or your workshop, a bonus that its already cleaned courtesy of natural processes. I have a set of antlers(not nearly as nice as those) in my shop/bike area that I hang my cycling helmet and gloves on. If I found those I'd absolutely find some place to show/use them.

Dead northern short-tailed shrew. Beneficial predators of invertebrates and mice. Has a venomous bite and a putrid musk it emits when attacked, to which ammals are susceptible. A fox may have caught this shrew, gave it a chomp and then realized their mistake. Hard way to teach your enemy a lesson.

We've been leaving the deer skull and antlers out on the hill where the deer died, because it was interesting to watch the process. This was how my wife originally found it.

Heavy spring rains here in SW Victoria Australia - local river flooded for a few days. 7 images stitched together.
