Betting there is a Norwegian salvage ship already on its way.
At what point does the cargo of a burning, sinking, abandoned vessel on the high seas become a shipwreck that can be salvaged?

Salvage law is complicated. Right now if someone could airlift cars off the ship, you'd only be entitled to a portion of the proceeds.
Let's say the fire miraculously went out, and you were first to board the ship and claim salvage. You could claim compensation, but the cargo still belongs to whoever was shipping, and the ship still belongs to the owner. You'd probably have 2 years to wait for a arbitrator for Lloyds to make a ruling..

Otherwise, you are just a pirate. You may want to grow a beard first.

Welcome to Maritime Law. One of my wife's colleagues was an expert in Maritime Law. He worked on some part of the salvage rights for the ship full of Volvos that capsized and then got rammed by another ship in the English Channel. I know from his stories that Maritime Law is slightly esoteric International system of rules with precedents set sometimes way in the past but there is never a shortage of work.

So what I hear you guys saying is that if we marshaled all of the resources of VSalon, we could have it done by Tuesday, midafternoon at the latest.

I’ve read some great articles on marine salvage over the years. Fascinating topic. If I can find one I’ll post it.

For some reason I loved the big burly Bentley GT3 race cars that were on track just a few years ago. So I think I’m with you here.

    By Craig Trudell
(Bloomberg) -- The cargo ship that caught fire last week
carrying about 4,000 Volkswagen AG vehicles could cost the
automaker at least $155 million, according to one consultant’s
    estimate.
Of the roughly $438 million total value of goods aboard the
Felicity Ace, which went up in flames off the coast of
Portugal’s Azores Islands, Russell Group said Monday it
estimates there are $401 million worth of cars. VW group had
Volkswagen, Porsche, Audi, Bentley and Lamborghini models on the
    vessel.
A VW spokesperson declined to comment on the matter Monday.
Mitsui OSK Lines Ltd, the operator of Felicity Ace, said on its
website that two large tugs with firefighting equipment were
expected to arrive Monday morning local time to start spraying
water together with an initial salvage team that was on board
already to cool down the ship. No oil leakage has been confirmed
and the vessel remains stable, the transport company said.
Russell Group is modeling the total value of vehicles on
board, so its loss projections assume all vehicles are lost,
according to a spokesman. The consultant estimates auto
companies other than VW may have lost about $246 million worth
    of vehicles.
Felicity Ace is roughly the size of three football fields.
It was on its way to a port in Davisville, Rhode Island, from
Germany’s Port of Emden until the fire broke out on Feb. 16.

It’s a race sequential gearbox that has nothing to do with PDK. It actually have a clutch you use to get from N to 1st or N to R then you can use paddles.

Coming up on 12 years since the debut of this little video. I wonder if Francois slows down in the neighborhood these days.

Suppose that I have decided I want to own a 964 that I can drive every day 20 miles round-trip to work. Where would one start doing research to figure out what to buy? Everything I ever knew about them was back when they were new and now I know nothing. I have plenty of time. TIA
