Scrambler is just a synonym for city bike these days, nobody is riding them off road anyway. Having said that, many dirt track motorbikes have low pipes. It doesn't matter unless you have to clear obstacles which those bikes aren't made toy.

The scrambler won't fry your balls unlike the 1098 I had for a while. It was a sterilizing machine under 60mph. Over it was simply a death trap.

Now, besides my pedal bikes, I ride a vespa GTV 250 or an aprilia 250. They are a bit more tame than my ducatis.

Pete, I'm learning about vintage BMWs through my curiosity about your bike. Have you ever ridden the high fender version?

I haven't, but the original G/S (1980) was the basis for the ST, which was only made for two years (1983 and 1984).

    Mine is an '84...

Perfect weather for riding today. Other than a goodly sized bruise on my hip from washout in a muddy corner, it was a wonderful day. I wasn't upset about hitting the dirt, just pissed cause I changed what pants I was wearing at the last minute and wasn't wearing the pair with the hip pads installed.

Spent the day chasing these chuckleheads through the woods. Everything from very technical rocky single track to fire roads. I'm pleasantly tired and just a bit dusty.

We were out about 7 hours and covered 120 miles. Some of the dirt road sections got kind of long on a 2-stroke. Unbalanced wheels at 40 mph also start to vibrate. No new bumps or bruises, so that's a good thing. I was fully armored up just in case. This was definitely not big bike friendly if you chose to ride the options. Even some of the sections on the main route would have been challenging on a bigger bike.

Looks can be deceiving. The heavier set guy on the KTM was seriously fast whenever we hit single track. I'm still pretty new at this so speed is relative. I rode my own pace and bailed on a few of the options near the end as I started to get tired. I need to dust off the mountain bike and start hitting the trails on a regular basis to improve my fitness.

Definitely misnamed. The definition of scrambles (meaning the AMA racing definition) was an open course over rough terrain (think desert race or perhaps a large loop). Dirt track was smooth oval or tri-oval.

BTW, what is the advantage of this Ducati Scrambler over a Ducati Monster? At first glance the Scrambler costs more, has less power, and doesn't have the style.

Maybe a slightly higher saddle for peoples who aren't dwarves? Not sure about the current one but on the original pre 2000 monster didn't fit me at all, I would have the knees almost hitting the helmet and I am not even tall.

Weekly motorcycle gang meetup took us to Bob's place in Bethel, CT last night.

Fresh yellow fin tuna, burgers, rubs, etc, plus a peek around the barn...

Long ride down and back with a small group (about 80 miles each way), mostly back roads (including some dirt roads on the way down), caught in one helluva storm for the last 30 miles on the way back home in the dark.
