    Default Super Bowl Eats 2023

    Who's doing what?

We're having 3 families over and I've settled on the following thus far.

Chips, salsa, queso (should I smoke the cheese?)
Brisket, Hawaiian rolls, cotija cheese, pickled onions, jalapenos
Chicken thighs and/or hot dogs for the kids
    Grilled vegetables
    Guests bringing salad and desserts

Small gathering. I'm going old school. Beer prep'd sausages which I'll grill and serve on potato rolls with all the usual suspects. A few bags of bougie organic chips, cheesey poofs plus a few pints of the best ice creme ever to grace this earth.
I'll most definitely whip up some fancy rosemary/gin cocktails.
    Yeah, I'm coping out.

    Go KC

Nice. Some local friends hosted us recently and served sausage and peppers on hard rolls and it was like stepping back in time to my great uncle’s backyard in Pompton Plains, NJ circa 1987.

5:30 wake-up call to fire up the smoker. Meat on the grill.

Born and raised Oxford Circle Philly Italian boy married to a born and raised Parkwood Philly Irish girl. We bleed green.

The menu at Casa Luigi: cheesesteaks, Tony Luke's roast pork with broccoli rabe, long hots and provolone, soft pretzels (yellow mustard of course), scrapple, Goldenberg's Peanut Chews, Tastykakes. And Chickie and Pete's crab fries with Cheese Wiz - because, of course, we needed a vegetable.

To drink: Yards beer, Eagletinis (don't ask, my wife was like Madame Curie mixing booze to match the jerseys) and the bourbon will be Eagle Rare (there is no such thing as good local craft bourbon).

Also, Linda's meatballs (the only non-Philly specific item but the Eagles have been undefeated with this specific recipe).

I am clearly suspending my Spring Classics training for the day.

    Go Birds!

PS: This is for six people.

    Go get it Lou!
Yards Brawler was always a favorite when visiting my Philly cousins.

Your lineup reminds me there’s a sandwich place near here that I’ve been meaning to try out. They have a pork and broccoli rabe on the menu that looks good.

Just me and my bride in our family room with a nice fire…roasted and shredded chicken tortillas, with avocados, salsa, fresh veggies and a pint of Hitchhiker Brewery’s (local/10 minutes from me) Double Dry Hopped Opposite Bane double IPA. I hope that I make it through halftime.

Brisket was on point. All our guests left after halftime show (young kids) so I am having a nice quiet second half.
Woke up at 5:30 to get the smoke going so I was already tired by kickoff.

Just one mile ? They're so good I'll hop on the train and go into town just to get one. Of course, I usually wind up wandering around the rest of the Reading Terminal Market for a Termini's cannoli or Kiehl's apple fritter. Did this just last week and popped in the Philly Auto Show.

Disappointed with the outcome of the game but it was a culinary success. It's beautiful here today, so I'll ride off the eats for a good part of the day. Win - win.

In honor of chef Ali Ahmed Aslam's passing, we had chicken tikka masala.

Cheated a bit and followed the recipe from NYT Cooking: https://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/...n-tikka-masala

We did a buffet for two. Italian sausage with sautéed onions, ribs from a local place and some tiger shrimp in butter, olive oil and lemon. No pics because RW are always better.
