Approaching ORD from the East early this morning.

A local air show had some oldies but goodies flying over the homestead.

A dozen or so diversions to PIT this evening from the NY, DC and Philly airports….storms. That Spirit flight looked really fun said no one ever.

So I’m in my backyard about a 1/2 hour ago and I heard the roar of this old Douglas C-50-DO Skytrooper as it flew about 1,200’ over my head. I did some homework on the plane…now called Beach City Baby…which some of you folks might find to be of interest, as the plane has quite a storied past.

Neat plane. The wood surprises me. I would’ve guessed it would be all metal.

Before FAA and DoD certification rules were updated with more emphasis on fire blocking, there was a surprising amount of wood in aircraft interiors. The first time I walked through a KC-135 tanker, I was shocked that the cargo floor was plywood! I couldn’t wrap my head around a flying gas station with a flammable interior.

Old age and treachery beat youth and enthusiasm every time…
United was forced to divert to ORD a flight from IAH to AMS, all allegedly because of an unruly business class passenger upset with his/her meal choice.
What an utter bellend to cause this level of unnecessary chaos.
Start putting these folks, immediately upon landing, behind bars for three or four months, forcing payment for the cost to the airlines and ban them from flights on any airline operating in/out of the USA for the rest of their lives, and I'm guessing we'd see a pretty sharp reduction in episode frequency. For an honest to gawd fight, make it twelve + personal damage + punitive $. Get the word out....and effing do it and it'll stop.
Bonus points if Joe Biden and the Democratic Party would propose the legislation; the righteous indignation of our "law'n order GOP brethren would add a valuable comedic element. I think I'll write my....oops, they're all J6-insurrection-silent republicans. I'll write Joe; nothing much else on this afternoon in DeSantistan.
I heard an odd engine sound out in the yard this afternoon and I logged on to Flightradar24. Czech made jet trainer apparently (Aero L-39 Albatross) and “check” out the link..noted as an affordable jet fighter trainer. It took off from Johnstown, PA of all places.

We are in Shell, Wyoming, for the weekend. My wife is showing at a gallery this evening, and I get to ride my bike. I rode from Shell to Grey Bull this morning to see the aerial firefighting museum. The company and planes are no longer in service, but there is a lot of history sitting on the tarmac and in the fields. Privateers, C-119s, Neptunes, and C-97s.

This one has a high “clenched cheeks” factor. Two jets that were put into each other’s path.

So this is interest. While awaiting my handlebar from Italy (via CDG and Memphis), I looked up whether there's a direct flight between MEM and MKE
It turns out that not only is there a direct service by FedEx to MKE, there's also a 1-stop flight that has a layover in Madison before making its way to MKE, and it's on a wide-body A300 freighter, too.
Kinda interesting that the regional airport gets regular service by a modern-ish wide-body, albeit a freighter. 20 minutes between the cities, with the A300 never higher than 12,000 ft.
