The turbine room at the Grand Coulee was closed for visitors due to construction, but was I able to view (no visitors) the turbine room at the third of the "big dams"...the Bonneville Dam...complete with the 1/4 mile fish ladder and the Chinook and Coho were running.

I was there about 35 years ago, and gotta agree with this. It's something to see.

Why did I feel compelled to do the math on that burrito unicorn? Then happy to see it checks out...?
    I'm burnt-out and bored.

If the process is more important than the result, you play. If the result is more important than the process, you work.

Sadly I did the same when I took the photo and I feel good that he has a name.

I took this photo while riding this morning. This is the Indian School at Truxton Canyon. https://www.nps.gov/places/schoolhou...ing-school.htm It was here that Indian children were forcibly assimilated into white culture by denying them their native language, clothing, and culture. Boys learned a trade such as carpentry, and girls learned sewing, cooking, and cleaning. This history is part of what I study as a historian. In a few weeks, I will start teaching a few days a week at a K-8 school that serves the Hualapai Reservation. I will drive past this schoolhouse on my commute.

The area's history is fascinating if you read the linked NPS article. The Beale Wagon Road was surveyed and built by engineers under the command of Lt Ned Beale in the late 1850s. Previously, Beale had fought alongside Kit Carson in California and escaped through enemy lines to bring the first gold nugget to the East Coast. His maternal grandfather was Commodore Truxton, who commanded the USS Constellation in the Quasi War with France. Truxton Canyon was named after Beale's son Truxton. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_Fitzgerald_Beale

A photo a day and a history lesson.

If his group is driving across the Nullarbor Plain to Perth he'll have a few more chances to snap an emu.
