    Default Seattle hotels …..

So we are heading to Sacramento in mid-July ….. and before people question the choice of tourist destination …. I’m sort a train nerd (actually a lot of a train nerd) and Union Pacific are bringing their summer Steam Tour to Roseville, Ca. So we are going to head down and hang out with a lot of people who I have no doubt will be much bigger train nerds than me … but we are taking the train down.

Of course none of the schedules match up very well so we are taking the train from Vancouver to Seattle and then have to stay over to get the train to Sacramento the next morning ….

7 AM departure out of Seattle (King Street station) , which means check in at 6.

Anyone have any suggestions for a hotel to make it to the station in good time on a Wednesday morning in July??

Downtown is not on the radar as I don’t feel like dropping $400+ …………

For any other train nerds ….

Wow - cool engine! Maybe check out the Panama Hotel - no idea about pricing but it’s close, cool, and historical.

I checked the Embassy Suites - amazing what happens to prices in mid-July….

I felt like $500+ for a night at an Embassy Suites was just a little bit rich ……..

Coworkers like the Max, the Sorrento, and the W. Pretty sure they’re more downtown than you want. You could go south of SoDo perhaps, the Georgetown Inn?

Hotel is booked, thank you all. I had intended to Train back to Vancouver after the event but my bride booked us on a flight back from Sacramento to Vancouver as she didn’t want me to miss the Whitecaps game on the (rare) Wednesday night.

I did marry up. No question.

Just as an FYI - train travel is a stupid bargain. Vancouver to Sacramento with a private room, meals and an overnight is still cheaper than the flight from Sacramento to Vancouver.

Oh good lord … there is a name I had long tried to forget.

Way back when in the (I think) mid-80’s the Edgewater was caught up in a messy far-reaching bankruptcy of a group of Doctors in Vancouver who had decided that a portfolio of hotels and apartment buildings was a great decision … they hadn’t heard of Paul Volcker yet.

And since I was the “junior” guy in the group guess who got to deal with the properties that weren’t within a 20 minute drive of much favoured lunch spots at the time …

I spent a lot more time than I care to remember at the Edgewater ….

I never cared about trains, then recently moved to Rochester from Denver and am right by the lines. There was a newer engine pulling the normal cars, and then on the back was an old 1930's? old school caboose, and I lost my stuff. It was so cool to see.
