I sourced a brand new Bora Ultra tubular 35 NOS from Campy Italy so I am all set. One of the last 2 sets they had.

was a cinelli vip kit i had made for me in 1979 (i ordered about 90 of them in different colors, stem lengths, and handlebar drops and widths.) the owner said the leather wrapping was all mold after four decades so systematically scraped it off.

Every morning, often before 7am, Stevie and I get into the car and drive three streets over to Fountain Hill Cemetery. It’s there where she takes me for a walk.

Being so young, everything is still new to Stevie. She moves slowly, and often backwards, and mostly ponders. Eventually she does what she needs to do.

I’m there with my own demons, anxieties, and self-doubt. And this daily ritual Stevie and I have allows me to do what I need to do too. I also ponder.

As I opened the car door and reached over to lift her out from the driver side, I took in the crisp autumn air and smelled the wet grass and leaves underfoot.

Today I was consumed with the beauty of everything around me. Of everything around us. I said aloud to anyone who might hear, “What a lovely day.”

I put Stevie down. I closed the car door. And to my right was a tombstone marked with the family name, Day. In that moment all I could do was pause.

Sometimes, for me at least, the hardest thing to do is pay attention. This morning, more than ever before, I thought about the scent of life. And how beautiful it is.
