What are you wearing when working around your shop, doing chores, in situations you want to protect your clothes?

I’m looking for something when doing chores and developing film. Long sleeve, waist length, comfy, doesn’t need to be waterproof or anything like that. Extra points for style. I’ve seen old engineer/machinists smocks but can’t seem to locate a modern version.

I’ve tried a smock/apron. I’d like sleeves and not a fan of it hanging off my neck all day.

I know someone here is going to have a good suggestion.

Old school railroad workshirt. I've tried to kill this shirt for two seasons of timber clearing and general hard HARD use. Good luck. FWIIW plan on washing it a few times before it stops standing in the corner mocking you.

No style points, but I just wear old seasonally appropriate stuff that I don't care if it gets stained, torn, etc.

Old sweatshirts, T-shirts, jeans, etc. that aren't nice enough to wear out of the house but have some useful life left in them.

I was a volunteer tax preparation guy for United Way for five years. I have a stack of long sleeve United Way shirts that I wear to do dirty jobs until they're unwearable. I have one that is stained with red mineral oil from bleeding brake.

I second RedKap. At this point, I must have at least a dozen RK work shirts. Lighter than Dickies, but every bit as durable. My only minor gripe is that if I haven't shaved in a while, the top button is a snap button, and it'll grab my chin hair when all the stars align.

Thanks everyone. I decided I really wanted a couple more pockets than a traditional shirt has, so I went with mad-scientist's lab coat.
