    Default Your favorite cooler?

This summer I'm taking a massive road trip and I want a new cooler to keep in my truck bed.

I have a Yeti knock-off style cooler now, and it's totally space inefficient. Yes, it's thermally very efficient, but the lack of space inside is a real bummer. It also weighs a ton. I'm planning on being in hotels most nights, so getting ice should not be a big deal.

I know there are some new players in this space.

What coolers are people loving these days?

One of the guys hunting our property had a Dromatic(?) cooler in his truck. It was fancy looking, but I don’t know anything about it. What a recommendation eh? I just mention it because it was new to me and not named Coleman, Yeti or Igloo.

edit: I misread/misheard/misremembered the name - actually Dometic. Seem pretty spendy.

I bought an Rtic cooler despite the name based on value and reviews. No complaints.

It would be nice to find reviews that have some sort of internal:external ratio rating for easy comparison.

For a long trip, I'd get something electric, especially if you're going to be carrying more than sealed containers. I don't really want to be eating or drinking out of two week old cooler water.

Car and Driver has a list of top electric coolers: https://www.caranddriver.com/car-acc...SAAEgI2S_D_BwE

For the record. Dry ice and a sheaf of newsprint will make any cooler good.

I've got a large RTIC which is heavy as a cow, gets the job done.

I have one of these. It is pretty efficient, but pretty heavy.

FWIW, Wirecutter recommends Rtic and Canyon brands.

    Have fun planning the adventure!

    Yep.
We live out of coolers for a month at a time = we have 3 Canyons, my buddy an Rtic as he gets pro-deals on them.

They are super close in ice retention with the Canyons being a little better off stowing as they are perfectly square and don't snag on things.
The Rtic may hold ice a day longer maybe or that could be just because it was usually the beverage cooler.
    - Garro.
