Default VS - A victim of our own success

Gentle readers please understand this most recent downtime was due to our success.

Read the archives to impress your self with the amazing knowledge, sharing and humorous brickbats.

We should be particularly proud of how well we represent to encourage others who do and will own handmade bicycles. Not so incredibly, handmade opinions both bicycle, personal and political are held with high regard for honesty and fairness. We rule.

My min. manager book says this is the part where I get down to it.

After years and years of usage our disk space is fairly ginormous. Because we are liberal in allowing folks to upload images to the server with-in-reason are one reason for the disk usage. Personally, I like how we operate and do not want to change our policies about disk usage.

This leads to a decision and discussion about VS future. There are MANY paths we can choose, if you are reading this not searching for how to fold a spare tubular tyre proper you are involved.

We could buy more space, it is only money yah? At present our server and extra space (we've up'd that number several times) cost $150/month. That cost is not just about space, the provider is also excellent at data backup and firewall.

Kick in another TB or so and call it good, share the cost/pass the hat? Alternately, we can start to prune images and other "things" that cost space on the server which I do not love. Another option is to cease to allow image uploads to the server 100% which I also do not love because this means those images may not live beyond x amt. of time. Last, we can switch to a new platform that is "different", don't ask me what that is however we should be all ears to new ideas.

Jorn, RS, myself and some others will swat flies. Y'all give me your best.

I periodically purge images. I need to quit being such a Luddite and get a hosting account for my photos.

And here I was thinking the site was down as the pesky natives and foreigners (boo) were making fun at the powers that be over a non-secure top secret conversation with the implication that they couldn't organise a r**t in a brothel* and someone somewhere got snarky and sent TT to that prison in Cuba to repent for his sins. Until they discovered they did not have appropriately sized orange jump suits and sent him back in order to tell everyone to behave. But no, no rendition and water torture, just too many photos!

*They could organise a pay off following a r**t (though not in a brothel), but the pay off became public and resulted in criminal charges, which were ultimately proven. Hence establishing the suggested implication.

Given the amount of yearly donations you get. How much would you need per year? Would you prefer a monthly or yearly donation?

I now I have made a few donations in the past, but not nearly every year out of stupid reasons like now is not the right time to spend money on procrastination and my partner will find it silly if she sees a donation to a forum. Setting up are recurring one would prevent me from making up excuses or pretending that I would be doing it another day.

Also as I am an IT system/infra and devops engineer, feel free to send me a message about your current config + traffic and stats if you have them and maybe I can have a look at opportunities where you could save on hosting vsalon even when staying on same provider if you are happy with it. I know hosting is getting harder and harder these days as the bulk of internet traffic to web servers is now increasingly made of AI companies crawlers/robots which try to scrape everything.

Thanks Thomas. We rake in about 1/2 of what we need to pay the tab so do the math. Monthly donations are really good as they are most reliable. We do not strictly enforce giving back a small amt. from classified sales but than again we don't enforce much of anything other than civility ;)

Appreciate your offer for IT help. I'll message you if I'm in need.

Just re-upped my Classifieds subscription and made another donation on top.

I'm no expert to weigh in on the photo hosting mechanisms - most of mine are linked from Tumbler.

Thanks for keeping the lights on.

Thanks everyone for the generosity. I certainly did not mean to shake a tin cup still the support is very very appreciated.

LOL Mike, true enough. It is a low bar to pay for this place which is why I don't sweat it.
