I had a Waterford that did both those things as well as a broken driveside dropout (very delicate looking Henry James dropout) and the driveside chainstay that cracked 3/4 of the way around the tube right behind the bb. Very light, but it didn't matter after it broke. I think I remember you saying "A heavy bike is faster than a broken bike"

What do you check on the alignment table, and what are your standards?

Zank did that picture group on FNL a little while back, and it saved me from ever having too, as he does it exactly like I do {so it MUST be right!} with exactly the same tools. Alignment is my playground. It gets me off, my little game. the seat tube has to be spot on, the center of the axle has to be perfectly in plane with the center of the BB & the ST, and the front triangle I get down to a few thou, less the .25mm in any measurement. - WAY straighter then people. I do not cold set. my over size tubes are not tolerent or allowing of it. I align with tacks. let me know if you have any other questions. Eric, right? - Garro.

1: powder. local for 1-color, Spectrum PW for anything beyond that. wet doesn't hold up to what people do with my bikes. I did it for awhile. they ended up looking like a mile of mud fence. pingers & scrapes all over. maybe if i did a nice lug bike someday....... 2: I sure hope so. In saying that they were "welders" doesn't give then adequate credit. they were "metal guys." - you name it. I srarted Brazing because when i started riding there were two kinds of bikes in my world: Mtn bikes, and fillet brazed Mtn bikes. I never had a fillet one until i built my own. I still have those end of day sit back, crack a brew & stare wonderment on how much i like them! - Garro.

Steve, I know exactly what you mean. I've always like that smooth transition of the tubes. My Schwinn Stingray had that look to it (according to Sheldon Brown they were not brazed but looked like that from their welding technique). Anyway, a Schwinn looked way superior to everyone else's Texas Rangers. When I first got started in mtn biking in 1986 I had a Trek 850. I was riding with guys on fillet brazed Fishers. I just remember feeling kind of 2nd class with my Trek. MM

Because bikes are beautiful. I love bikes. why paint elabourate works of art? those are useless for anything other then looking at. I like the interaction. I dig the people. I love metal. why would i stop? At least i'm not in jail in New Hampshire making "live free or die" license plates - now THAT would suck - Garro.

When you send frames to the local powdercoater for single color, are the stickers over the top or do you have high temp decals under a powder clear?

I put stickers over the top. I agree with B-tragers' idea on this {his old santa Cruz frames} where Mtb's get scratched & you just put on new stickers. with the decals under the clear when you scratch the clear the sticker comes off too, and looks knackered {YRMV}. everyone has the option to bump up to Spectrum Powder if they want painted on logos, I credit them for the local paint job & they deal with Mark & Liz to come up with the look they are after. - Garro.
