Is this a reference to shell cordovan coming from a horse's hindsection, or a question as to whether I'd use them for their original intent (farming? riding?)? They were actually based on 1940s US army parachutist boots, so even if I used them for their original purpose (I don't actually sky dive) the only way they'd see horse manure is if I landed in a stable.

Those things are about as close to a set of Corcoran jump boots as my ass is to Penelope Cruz's. Basically they're boots and that's where the similarity ends. I still have my dress Corcorans, but man, if you're not in uniform with bloused pants, you're going to look like Bozo wearing them.

    Brown Corcorans:

"It's better to not know so much than to know so many things that ain't so." -- Josh Billings, 1885

A man with any character at all must have enemies and places he is not welcome—in the end we are not only defined by our friends, but also those aligned against us.

Alec has got some serious game. Nice boots.

A long time ago when I had a horse boarded nearby the family home I mucked stalls after work to help defray costs. Being an independant lad with an paper route, lawn business and generally resourceful I had my own spending money. The boots I had made for work were Lucheses with an waterproof sole and walking heel. First day I wore them someone asked "are you actually going to stand in horse piss in them things?". Seemed an odd question. Horses for courses. It is interesting to see how fashion is derrivative of practical wear from other disciplines. For instance the simple Jodphur boot was/is an useful item for horseback workouts because they are pull on kickoff and coexist with any sort of pants leg style....but the "fashionista" spin on these retains the profile and none of the function. It's just interesting, that's all I got.

I hate seeing the pirate/horse boot wearing city ladies sidestepping the 1/4 inch puddle. Really? Those boots you got on are designed for nasty conditions. Use them.

Allen Edmonds Byron, black. My wedding shoes. Love them.
Just bought a pair of clark og desert boots. They're hipster ninja shoes as far as I can tell. Love them so far.

Hey, Daily Serving is fantastic thanks for that.

I'll give my undying devotion to anyone who can find Desert Boots in an 15. D@mnit I wore the heck out of those until my feet grew too large.

Clarks makes them in a 14 and they apparently run large.

Interesting about them being based on parachutist boot. I'd wager those early parachutist boots were based on the low cut riding shoe commonly referred to as "paddock" boots.

    Exhibit A: Dehner Paddock shoe.

The Australian riding shoe Blundstone made a mark in the USA as a riding shoe but now has a much wider audience.

    Exhibit B:

Josh, if you look closely you'll see the spur straps on the pair with the red uppers. Here's where I get my boots now....very reasonable for custom. CABoots Boots at caboots.com: Buckaroo, Cowboy Boots, Western Boots, Motorcycle Boots & Much More. Cowboy Boots to Wear, Cowboy Boots to Admire.

Next pair will be these with a green upper.

I didn't write the copy, I was just repeating what the shoe maker said. I think "modeled after" leaves them some serious leeway in the fashion world. As I mentioned, I'm neither a parachutist or old enough to have been alive in the 40s, so I'll defer to the resident expert.

Paddock boots is what the horse people call them. The hunter/jumper crowd train in them with chaps. Tall boots are for showing. The reason I know this is because I found out getting into horses is even more expensive than getting into bicycles!

Considering that paint of mine once had an $8000 vet bill, I can say that I'm in touch with that.

Horses are cheap till you show em or call the vet. [Cue someone that hates horses or some lame horse meat joke now....]

yup. Our current horse was free...ahh,then add in board, farrier, vet, truck/trailer. Not so much free. The only benefit is my wife can NEVER give me crap about the price of my bike stuff! $8,000??? colic surgery?

Print and show to your farrier.

Despite same day vet treatment, nail lead to huge/long term infection in coffin joint.
