I've been living in "Islands" world this last week. Got about a dozen shows from '72, and then I bought the 40th anny. re-release today at lunch (remastered by Steven Wilson of Porcupine Tree). As awesome as the album sounded, it's even better in the remaster.
Revisiting this one. Don't know whether to be astounded that a Beach Boy could ever get this dark, or that someone this dark was ever a Beach Boy.

I've rediscovered my love for this shower of late. Everything Eliminator and before is awesome.

Titus Andronicus continually rock my face off.
tUnE-yArDs. The fact that they spell their name that way is kind of obnoxious, but they are absolutely mesmerizing.
The thing that's hard to get a sense of in this video is just how few people are on stage. There are two horn players, there's a bassist, and there's Merrill Garbus, the main force behind the band. She sings, she drums, she plays the frikkin' ukelele. And she does it all live looping drum tracks and background vocals, literally building songs on the spot. Her singing is spellbinding, reminds me a lot of Nina Simone, but in a totally different context.
For reals, she's one to watch.
Amazing voice.
