With me being recently retired Navy...I'm not sure how to feel about that picture...I'm leaning towards abject shame though.

My Dad, USNA '78, while not a cyclist, would know enough to be embarrassed by that photo.

one of the great features about the 44 head tube design is that it allows the use of any fork; 1 1/8 to 1 1/2, 1 1/8 to 1 1/2, 1 1/8 to 1 3/8, or straight 1 1/8 simply by using a different crown race. we can certainly alter the design slightly based on the axle to crown measurement of your fork- but i would want to make sure it is a fork that will ride right with my frame.

talk to me about the magnesium frame

i've got a carbon, steel, and ti bike and this bike seems proper. why don't companies make mag frames anymore? i always wanted one of those black dogma's

In what case would you recommend the mag frame? You have the Corsa for all around racing and the Inox for Roubaix style races.

i can't at this point recommend a magnesium frame at all. this is a long term project and we haven't yet had tubing produced that meets our standards. here's the thing- the corsa can easily be built in to a bike at or below the uci weight limit. when our magnesium frame comes about, it will be afew hundred grams lighter and at least twice as much money. if i can't make it as great as the corsa- with the weight saving benefit of magnesium- we'll hold off until we can.

Doesn't magnesium bring other problems to the table as well, such as galvanic corrosion with dissimilar materials and surface corrosion to exposure to air and sweat if there is a failure in the coating?

Why yes, it does. Magnesium oxidizes to a dark grey/black color when exposed to air. When submerged in water it will react and release hydrogen molecules. Powder and shavings are highly flamable and will burn underwater. I would assume you would want to use some kind of Magnesium/Aluminum alloy for a frame to avoid these issues. But hey, if your lost in the woods with your bike and a knife you could take some shavings off the stays and start a campfire!

When I was a kid the next door neighbor hoodlum was going at the magnesium engine case on his dirt bike with a file or something. Of course, it caught fire. No knowing what to do, he tossed it into their pool. The pool just so happened to have a vinyl liner. oops. Pretty funny, because we really hated those neighbors.
