BTW, I have listened to that D4 clip 4 times now. Strong finish to that show.

Today's '90s guilty pleasure:
All these Fat Wreck bands reminded me of Propagandhi. What a strange band.
To balance that out, here's 7 Seconds from 1986. This is a whole set (so I'm not going to embed it), and the real show begins after the altercation at 12:30:
Good stuff! But now I'm straying from the '90s theme. My real music knowledge lies somewhere between 1975 and 1985, haha.
I saw them back in the 90's too. The dudes were so normal. The looked like me and my buddies. Meanwhile those XX Straight-Edge XX whiney dorks and jingoistic Skins in the crowd drove me nuts.
I saw them with some lame Ska Band.
Funny HS story, I went with some buddies right after school to Burlington, VT to see the Pilfers and Allstonegains (SP?) at Club Toast (props to any Salonista who ever went there.). I went to a boarding school so I was in black slacks and t-shirt, and my buddy for some reason (that we still dont know) was wearing Birkenstocks. He not even the type of kid who wears birks...he was a skater. But his family was not the most wealthy so I think he felt obliged to wear these expensive sandles. We would take a certain pride in going to shows in our boarding school garb. I cant tell you how many buttons I have resewn or how many times I would end the night with no shirt at all.
Anyways, midway throgh the Allstonegans show, my buddy looses his sandles in the mosh pit. We see his sandles being thrown around left and right. I manage to catch one after it smacked my face and had to hold on for life as they became a gag and folks were itching to throw the Birks at folks. And you have to imagine, this is Burlington, VT...so the punk crowd is quite the minority compared to hippies that were so well represented by that pair of shoes.
...well, during the break, we go outside to get some fresh air. My bud is complaining about his now missing shoe. At some point, we dont know when, but my bud finds one of the band members and asks him if he could make an announcement or something. So a couple songs into the next set the band stops mid way though a song and says"...I just cant keep going knowing that some poor hippy is missing his jesus shoes. I mean, what more appropriate at a ska show then sandles, right!?" He ended up ragging on my buddy for like 5 minutes, then got him up on stage and forced him to dance for the shoe. So first my buddy does the Dumb and Dumber Dance. NOt GOOD ENOUGH. Next my buddy starts skankin', but the lead singer stopped the music yet again and forced him to dance sexy. It went on for like 10 minutes. Finally, the drummer or someone gave him his shoe back. The whole crowd (of like 50) was in tears.
Great show, great memories. I know that folks like the Allstonagans dont have quite the weighty message as the more political offerings from DC and Berkeley...but damn those were some fun shows.

I don't have any good stories. The best one might be dancing with a member of the World Inferno Friendship Society at a show in Brooklyn years ago. She thought I looked sad (I did) so she ran off the stage during a song and... we danced. There is a lot that needs to be said about World Inferno to put that sentence into context, so maybe it is best that I say nothing at all.
Ever get the feeling you've been cheated?

7 Secound did the best rendition of "99 Luftbaloons"!
A pal of mine drew lots of posters for that scene especially 7 Seconds. He did the original cover for Walk Together Rock Together before they used that silly photo on the reissues.
My old band played with them in 1987 (i think) I was 16 and played in front of 900-1000 or so people or at least it seemed like it.
But nothing topped playing with the Circle Jerks the same year.
I got lots of stories...
Here is my pal's site... Home
The Crew Is Me The Crew Is You :)
you played with the Circle Jerks? thats awesome!

Just to clarify: My band opened for them. I was not in the Circle Jerks.
It was on the VI tour. Keith Morris was a kool dewd. He was in the CJ and Black Flag so how could he not be?
It was maybe a year and a half before this
I'm still a punk. The youthful righteous anger has matured into a simmering seething contempt. As it should be.
I just saw 7 Seconds play a scorching show Sunday at the Bottom Lounge. Old, fat, but so, so good. The energy was palpable.
I haven't sung along like that in years.
I got into indie and jazzy stuff in my mid-twenties. All got boring, so now at 31 I just mostly listen to punk rock just as I did when I was 17.
The new band that's got me going is Fucked Up. My god, are they incredible.
Im a bit hit or miss with F.U. I guess I like a bit more melody.
I also enjoy The Bronx. I saw them in DC last April. Good show other thant he venue has speakers WAY too big for the space and volumes simply get so loud that everything muddles together.
