    Default Shoe Rehab

Noticed the old dogs were a bit funky yesterday at work. Luckily I sensed it before anyone else; or, at least, before anyone else thought to mention it. The work wardrobe is a bit strict here, so an ounce of prevention would mean owning multiple pairs of the same shoes. No bueno on my budge. So the shoes went to rehab yesterday.

Here's how to get putrid funk out of your footwear (Please do this yourself, and don't make your butler do it.):

-With a flat object, gently scrape whatever gunk has collected in the shoe. Shake out any debris and wipe down with a dry rag.
-Mix a solution of 1 part water and 1 part white vinegar. With another rag, go over the entire inside of the shoe. Let the shoes air dry for an hour.
-Stuff shoes with newspaper and set out to dry (AT LEAST 4 hours).
-Toss the newspaper (the rags, your dignity). Seal the shoes in a plastic bag and leave them in the freezer overnight. This kills whatever bacteria is left. Make sure the shoes are as dry as possible, unless you want ice to form, melt into water, re-create your whole swamp-foot sitch again.
-Stuff the shoes with newspaper again and let thaw (again, several hours is best). Wipe down moisture as often as you can.
-Toss newspaper, sprinkle a decent amount of baking soda inside the shoe and shake vigorously.
-Brush off the shoes and the haters.

Rinse lather, repeat. Again, an ounce of prevention blah blah blah.

I have shoes that get funky. I'm going to do this to my cycling shoes when the time comes. Getting wet then stored in a humid unventilated garage is not good keeping things fresh.
