    Default Merino jacket options?

I'm looking for suggestions for a merino wool jacket that I can wear under my top coat when the temperatures dip. Nothing fancy, just something simple that would also look good on its own when it gets milder. Some requisites:

    1. Full zip
    2. Trim fit
    3. Exterior hand pockets would be nice, but not absolutely necessary
    4. Comes in black.

Point #2 is probably the hardest part. Icebreaker's men's small is still too baggy on me (I'm 5'7", 34" chest).

I've found the following, but was wondering if anybody knew of other options.
    Minus33 - 100% Merino Wool Men's Expedition Weight Full Zip - Style 708

There's an action shot in the smoked out section with RS as your model.

Not a huge fan of the conspicuous branding on that, but thanks for the suggestion.

    Anything else out there?

Have you tried Ibex before? Their sizing is a hit or miss for me, but I like my shak vest. Just ordered this one:

I second the Ibex Shak. At this point I have 2 versions, a hooded with thumb holes for skiing cold weather riding, and a full zip for school wear. Such a versatile piece, that wears well and has a trim fit.

The Ibex Optimus full zip looks like exactly what I'm looking for, but their size chart says a small is made for a 36-38 chest, so it sounds like it'll still be quite baggy. I'll have to see if I can find a dealer somewhere.

Outlier tends to be slim fit:

Well made. More cool weather than cold though.

    I'll make you one

    Cima Coppi Track jacket.

I make them in my Vancouver studio. I can make it as trim and as long/short as you like. Whatever colour you want. However much or little branding you want.

    100% merino wool (no blends)

    Let me know.

Does the liner need to fit over a suit? To me "topcoat" means over a suit. If so, a wool vest might be a good option since you won't have to worry about the shoulders binding.

I have the Mission Workshop Bosun jacket and it's really great. I'm not much larger than you (5'9", 135) and it fits nicely - looser than a jersey for sure, but a really nice mid-layer. It's surprsingly warm, the styling and construction are both top notch, made in canada,

It really hits the mark as a piece of technical apparel that doesn't look ridiculous off the bike.

right NOW is a good time to step into Brooks Brothers. Merino full-zips at 50% off puts them in the $65 to $70 range.
Nothing in all black, but that shouldn't stop you.
I have several that are a few seasons old and they hold up well.

    Hi Cima Coppi,
Your post made me go right to your website and I am quite impressed! Your unique sense of style and your reclaimed fabric sourcing are two things that really set you apart from other wool jersey makers. Oh yes, and the fact that you make each one individually! I am sure you would make a sweet jacket for the OP.

Anyway, just wanted to say hi and welcome to the Velocipede Salon.

OP, if you're local to Seattle, Hub and Bespoke in Fremont usually has a few Cima Coppi pieces on the racks. They're really nice to pick up and try on. West End Cycles in Portland had a Mission Workshop Bosun and some Outlier when I was down there before Christmas. I fondled and seriously waffled over that Bosun jacket.

I wish I has known you were doing this. I have an Icebreaker brand jacket that I bought in Valhalla. It fits all the requirements of the OP but had I known you were doing this I would have done things differently.

Next time though. Maybe treat myself to a new jersey this spring ...

These look really nice. Did you by chance go to Paul Brodie's course in Abbotsford? I remember seeing a photo with a guy clad in lots of your clothing.

I'm not sure where you're located, but there are maybe a half dozen Japanese brands that make variations on this theme in a pretty perfect cut for your size. CCP, Feeb, Rin Project, etc.

I really like the Ibex Shak line, but fear that the cut is simply too casual.

Hey, thanks for all the kind words.

Yes, Whale_Spout, I did go to the Brodie Workshop, that would have been me that you saw wearing our caps and track jacket. I've built a couple of bikes and thought I'd look into getting some expert advice.

We do have a few things in Hub and BeSpoke in Fremont. Yeah, Juliette rocks and although our items are a little sportier than her standard stuff, we've had a few jerseys in there.

Hey Harth, yeah, thanks again! I have a lot of respect for what you're doing with Wabi Woolens, the quality is great!

I'm really trying to ficus on doing team kits and custom wear because there aren't many people doing made in North America customized garments in wool. We embroider and try and have a large selection of colours and options of 100% wool (no blends). However, those are purchased from a company in the Alps. It's not reclaimed because it's next to impossible to find enough of the same to do a team order.

    Thanks again guys!
