I was thinking of getting my own set of taps so I just want to make sure:
M4 x 0.7 - STI adjusters, bolt for under BB cable guide
M5 x 0.8 - water bottle bosses
M6 x 1.0 - derailleur hanger
Correct?
Thanks,
HS

Derailleur hanger is M10 x 1.25
Water bottle, STI adjusters, fender mounts and most rack mounts are M5 x 0.8.
I have seen some straddle cable hangers with adjusters, some lowrider mounts on forks and some front light mounts that are M6 x 1.
All the BB cable guides I have ever used have been M5 x 0.8. I would check the one you are using and see, the only things I have used on a frame that are M4 x 0.7 are the bosses for Di2 short batteries.

Rear derailer mounting bolts are actually M10 X 1.0, not the "standard" fine thread 10mm (x1.25) dimension...
Unless you're talking classic stuff, like Campag's 10mm X 26tpi
25.4 is close enough to 26 that M10 X 1.0 covers you for the thickness of a classic dropout unless you are pretty picky.
Some of the older Shimano shift bosses used other then M5 threading, maybe M4? There are enough M6 needs so that's a good size to have more then one tap of. 8x1 is another nice one if you do much mechanical work, it's the common chain ring bolt size.
Does any one havea link to a tap extender that fits a M5? It's a pain to clean out a DT gear stop 1/4 turn at a time with a 4" cresent wrench. Andy

M5 is the most used of my taps...dropout eyelets, WB bosses, rack mounts, shifter bosses, BB cable guide.
M6x1 is for canti bosses and beefier rack mount bosses
M10x1 is for derailleur hangers
and if you use horizontal dropouts, get an M3 for dropout adjuster screws.
I use an old drill chuck (just the chuck) with my smaller taps for chasing threads. Works great.

Here's a link to the tap extension:
Tap Extensions | MSCDirect.com
use thread chasers to clean out paint and debris other wise you ruin the threads by cutting V's in the grooves when they should be U's for proper thread engagement and no loose fasteners down the road
down tube shift boss clean out; use a 1/4 drive socket and extension on a ratchet
any good tap & die maker
any good machine shop supply house
Well, in that case, you can Dremel a groove in the appropriate sized bolt and use that as a chaser. However, I see no issue with using a tap to chase threads.
