I test drove a manual allroad, nice car. I just can't get over the looming potential for repair bills.

I wish we would get lesser equipped Audis here. Manual transmissions, manual cloth seats, no nav, no electric hatch, etc, etc, etc.

Would you all please buy gas-guzzlers? The Royal family isn't stateside much these days, and the 9 to 5 is stressing me out.
    Got some cash

In re: repair bills - yep, the major drawback there. Key is to find one that has had the timing belt redone and the suspension air bags replaced with aftermarket already.

We lucked out on our A4 and found one in the color we wanted that is about as stripped down of an Audi interior as you'll find over here. No nav package, passenger seat is manual adjust, no driver's side seat memory, no electric hatch. It cut about $4k off the price. VW stopped importing AWD Passat wagons mid-model-year '08, and I really liked what I read about the Torsen over the Haldex AWD systems, so the search was narrowed to Audi and it worked out.

Since July we've put between 25 and 30K miles on it. Does that help?

Agreed that Europe/UK gets all the cool wagons.
I've really only ever driven VW's aside from an ill-fated detour to an Impreza (non WRX) which was the most uncomfortable car ever, so any deadness in the VW/Audi platform is lost on me.

Our 2010 TDI drives nicer than my '00 Gold which drove better than my '97 Jetta, which drove better than (and was twice as heavy as) my '85 Jetta.

45mpg, nice heavy doors that go 'thunk', 6-speed, and plenty of room for bikes and dog. Just a bit less sexy looking than that Audi.

PS- the panoramic sunroof on the current Jetta wagons is awesome, atmo.

I've put almost 17K on my car over the past year, despite not being able to drive the thing for three months. We're doing our part Chase!

I'd be in a Jetta TDI right now if it came in AWD. I rode in a friend's last weekend. The interior, trim-level wise, makes very few concessions from my car. The panoramic sunroof (is that a trickledown from Porche?) is absolutely sick.

Nice work. Ours is only ever driven on weekends, but that 9K+ mile July, r/t DC to Madison, r/t DC to VT, and a few other long legs sure has helped up the mileage.

Yeah, that's the funny thing with me, too -- I've never driven this thing to work, and seldom use it during the week. But, like you, I've had a ton of big road trips this year.

I also flew 37K on airplanes last year, so my carbon footprint is pretty huge for someone that commutes by bike most of the time, and uses public transportation when I'm not.

Hey, at least you're flying commercial. Keep that BBJ grounded for the enviro's sake, OK?

Seven months back in DC and I've only stepped foot on the Metro once, and that was to get home from BWI. Trying to hold off as long as I can.

I would probably take the first link before I'd take them boots. But the boots wouldn't hurt :)

I will also take a motorcycle, a mini coop for my girlfriend, and some new slacks.

    Thanks Santa

Hey Chase, that heavyweight grey herringbone shirt you picked out for Darren is real nice.
    I'm a 16/34, okay?

Speaking of nice shirts...Filson finally shipped my Orig. extra long wool shirt and it is about the nicest garment I've ever worn and I want another one. That should last me two lifetimes.

Wayne, the bad news is they're sold out.

The good news is Darren bought a second one in navy, and you know how to find him. Taste blood, my friend.

I got one of these in navy blue for Christmas this year. Bee's knees for sure. Dense, sturdy, and warm. Love it.

It would be a good day when I could fit into one of Darren's shirts, but I like that shirt enough to try.

Not quite the same, but you can buy 8 of them for what Darren paid.
Men's Double Pocket Refined Herringbone Shirt from Lands' End

I got one from JCrew a few seasons ago for about $100. Again, not as nice as Darren's, but there may be some dead stock floating around. EddieB, Mrs EddieB, and I watch Darren drop $400 on shirts within 5 minutes of getting out of the car.

We're headed to Burberry this weekend for a Glen Plaid suit if you wanna tag along.

Convince him that slightly oversized is a good look. I can only hope for a hand-me-down.

I wanted the above...then bought them. Planning on saving them for this summer's nuptials.

Sent my measurements off to a foreign land to have a suit made too.
