    Default Cycling Caps

Just finished reading this... Much of which I agree.

And after seeing this... BTW, I love it when my wife wears my hats.

Is it really THAT bad to wear a cycling cap off the bike?
Maybe it depends on what you're doing.
    Attending a cycling event?
    Shopping for groceries?

I never wear one off the bike, save the occasional dog-walk in the rain with my Gore Bikewear cap.

I agree with the suggestion to ban baseball caps on the podium. Very few people from non-baseball-playing nations know how to wear it well (see: Senna documentary, French rap videos, every Yankee cap in London) and this only exacerbates it.

oh now you tell me that it's poor fashion to wear my cycling caps all day long?!

eff it. i love the ones that fit-and allkindsofspecially the woolen ones. i hate when it gets too hot to wear cotton.

i like that they look like (well-fitted) welder hats (and fits under my hardhat (the logging type-not a Bell) and such when i need 'em).

it's nasty if you wear them around with sweat rings all over...

they look great on gals too.

I don't wear them "around," only on the bike, but this is the only way I wear them. I won't wash them for fear of damaging the brim. My Zanc cap looks like it's been swimming in the dead sea.

I dip them in water in the sink without getting the brim wet, gets rid of enough of the salt and smell for me.

Good to know. If I weren't a dirty bicycle hobo, I'd totally use that method!

But don't they use plastic in the brim these days? Mine go in the machine once a week or more often in summer.

No idea. Not brave enough to find out. RoseyScot, what's inside the brim of my Zanc hat?

Also, Devlin, that's one hell of an inseam for a 176cm guy.

I sweat so much - mine go in the wash every time. Rapha caps last about 3 years, Assos about 1 year. My Zanc, Atmo, Speedvagen and Embro caps hold up well.

Tell me about it. The only two good things about it are femurally positive for riding and a great excuse/reason to never buy a stock bike. Currently running about 200mm of bar drop.!!!!!

Haha. Opposite problem - with a H181cmI860mm, I'm on every stock 56 or 57 in the whole world.

Even though I have dozens still in the box, I'm still on my first. It's held up beautifully to dozens of washes, and I would even argue the brim has gotten better from washing. Some how, the fabric on the underside seems to shrink/tighten more than the topside, pulling the brim into a beautiful curve after every washing.

seriously, I keep trying to find excuses to pull a new one out for myself, but the original is just holding up too damn well.

oh, and the only cycling cap i wear off the bike is the custom wool Zank caps a good friend made a few years ago. never wear it on the bike, but it is perfect for post ride, or even weekend errands.

I walked into my lbs on a really cold day and picked this one up. Its soft and warm. And it covers my ears. Only set me back 35 bones.

Shameless plug for these hats. Made by 47-brand, they start out a bit deeper than your average cycling cap volume wise. I rotate hats and wash after every big ride. The nicest cotton cap I've ever used.

This whole looking 'PRO' thing is getting way out of hand.
I applaud anyone who strives for their own style, both on and off the bike. You can follow the 'rules' to the letter and still look like a douche.

    Folks need to lighten up.

You would have a couple fewer if you'd clear out your PMs! :)
