I like the cut of your jib. You beat me to the punch on the Cobra -- if there's a more desirable car in the world, I certainly don't know what it is. The 67-8 Mustangs are far and away my favorites of the early vintage, and if I were a bazillionaire, I'd have a resto-modded fastback as a daily driver.
Jonathan, I like your inclusion of the 50s-era Cadillacs. My dad just bought a 1950 Coupe deVille with 14k original miles on it, and it's a stunningly good car.
I think you have to include an F-series truck of some vintage.
And as much as it's become an American Grafitti cliche, the (fuel injected) '57 Chevrolet has to be on the list. Wipe away all the nostalgia and hagiography. and what's left is a remarkable, revolutionary car.
that best of list doesn't have enough mopars on it
I know what you're thinking. How the F did the Dodge Caliber not get its proper cred?

-looks bad? Check.
-handles poorly? Check.
-bad drivetrain? Check.
-cheap as fcuk interior? Check.
-can drive it on the beach? Check.
i was thinkin wut about the prowler
If we're adding the Prowler and Caliber, don't leave off the Aztec.
I bought an Aztec once*. Totally loaded - every option available.
I brought it home one night to see if my wife wanted to go out for a fancy night out on the town and she declined.
*Not for me. Sent it to my co-workers in Japan and I'm pretty sure they got it all street-legalized there and used it as a taxi of some sort to make airport runs.

Top 10 lists are too hard. Gotta give props to the Thunderbolt Fairlanes, the Cords, Jag E-Type, etc. etc. But this one has a special spot in my heart.

One car. There are not 10, I totally agree. Most of this is nostalgic and defies logic or practicality call it what you want but you know I'm right ;) Me? There is nothing as cool as a 1947 Woodie which is associated with some super fond memories. He!!, I'd even trade my 51' for a 47' Woodie in good working order with a modest BB, 4 spd, sub-framed, 9 bolt ...... hahahaah

P1000051.jpgI'm working on it.....one of these days.
Oh momma. Get it running D@mnit. What's the story there?
I drove the same for a week during the summer of 1978. Long story short, I was sailing a single design center board type race boat in a bad storm. I had sailed way way far from home and there was one other idiot out in the heavy weather having fun on the whitecaps. We did what guys do and raced boats until we were too exhausted and at that point I could not get home...too hard to tack into the wind so he says follow...I go to the guys house...wife feeds me hot tea and booze, daughter makes eyes at me and they toss me the keys to that car and say bring it back when the wind is favorable. No $hit what a great summer.
Can I have your car puhlease?

Just a 49 wagon with a flathead mill.
Carb from a 272, head shaved, Navarro 3/4 cam, lopes, SS valves, ported.
All new wood, no rust. Rebuilt O/D trans. Duals. Fully stock outside, modified under the hood.
Needs glass and floor mats , thats all. An early 49 with the full wood interior and wood top bows. I didn't want to do the normal thing and stick a Chevy small block and auto trans in it. I wanted the flathead lope to the exhaust. No chrome under there and it looks stock but its not. Inside is fully mahogany paneled like a boat interior. Leather seating surfaces on all three. One of these days.
I was kidding about the BB. That's perfect. Those engines are very sweet and nothing sounds like that with split duals...crack crack...crack. Put me in your will.
You'd rather have my 51' right? I lovingly rebuilt it bone stock save the 12 volt conversion and a full pressure 235...let's get real those 216's were junk. She has a class IV hitch, overload leaf and I yanked a granny 4 spd. from a wrecker...no rust ANYWHERE and even has orig. running boards. TRADE!!!
That's a great car, you are onto something.
