Go visit Clark at Larry's Performance Werks on Merrimon. He's an expert at wisely coaxing speed out of Hondas in both the four wheel and two wheel varieties. Don't ask for Larry unless you want to know how to build an air cooled 911 that'll out run factory Cup cars. Alternately, hit up my old riding partner Zack (zdiddy76 at gmail dot com). I can't remember where he works now, but he is also quite knowledgable and a fine cyclist to boot. *Tell them I sent you*

It's not incredibly far for me, and I could go by Saturday if a closer Salonista can't make it over by then.

What does the Civic have for suspension? Proper gravel suspension is very expensive. If this has even something decent it will add to the value considerably. Also, if you can tell me who built the car.

You'll save a ton of money buying a used rally car over building a new one.. no matter what you start with for a new build.

PS- Christian Edstrom? What a small world if so.

Never spent much time thinking about 510s or Skylines but these look like fun.

agrabau - don't have a civic yet. Looking for one local (EF, but the right EG would work too). Will take my time and do it proper, something to tinker with and all...

Christian is a good resource on this as well and I'm sure we can help you if you need advice on building a car for rallying.

Oh my gawd is the 991 good. We got to the top of Angeles Crest today, and after I hopped out of it, the suspension engineer from Japan looked at me and simply said "it's perfect, isn't it?"

But for a car that costs 1/4 as much, the BRZ is worthy of sharing the road.

Good thing it doesn't seem to be available in a real manual or I would be regretting my recent car purchasing decisions. That and I couldn't afford it. But, yeah, I love sport wagons.

Some experience? More like a sh!# ton.

It was older, but not the first time an RS4 has been here!

Back in 2001 GM had a B5 RS4 here under Temporary Import Bond (TIB). A few of us lucky soles got to go up to the Upper Peninsula for a few days and have our way with a few "imports" at the KRC Proving Grounds.

The car with the gold wheels was a Mitsubishi Legnum VR4 - 2.5L turbo'd 6, AWD, 1st gen Active Yaw Control.

The blue Impreza is an imported 1st gen turbo model. It was funny that GM and our MI office had almost the same imported car back then. Needless to say that was a fun trip. To have enough open space to be able to comfortably put an H1 Hummer into a full drift was something I'll probably never experience again.

That is young, fat me. The guy on the far right is Hideharu Tatsumi. Google him for fun. He's an absolute driving genius.

That, and I'd love to start seeing compact pickups with diesels here. I can't even imagine how many 4-cyl turbodiesel Tacomas Toyota could sell. It would me madness.

Audi isn't even selling the A4 Avant here anymore.

Idiot Americans hate wagons. I feel so lucky that Acura perversely created the TSX Wagon.

"Audi isn't even selling the A4 Avant here anymore."
But they ARE selling a new dumbed down Allroad which is just an A4 with some "cool" lower body cladding. I know a mechanic who somehow found a B5 RS4 engine in the States with which he created a faux RS4 by dropping it into an A4 Avant 1.8T Quattro and sourcing the proper body parts, wheels and interior pieces. After some adding some Dahlback magic into the mix that car was a beast and made me question why anyone needs anything faster for the real world.

Doesn't come in a manual in the US, either.
I've said it before but I still think the TDI Jetta Wagon is the best thing going these days as far as size, engine, etc. I have no idea why they can't do the same with the A4 Avants. If BMW does do the diesel wagon next year, in stick, they will make a killing.
