Also, anything automotive that is less offensive than this cannot be considered stupid.

Where are you finding a modded 335i for $30K? That would have to be the bro deal to end all bro deals, or a 10-year old car.
You can buy 2007 335i with less than 50K miles for about $25K all day. Five grand should get you at least an exhaust and ECU re-flash right? Probably have some left over for suspension work. But hey, it seems from your other posts that the character of the Mustang is more your thing.

If I had unlimited money I'd have an S6 or RS6 Avant. I'm a completely unapologetic Euro station wagon guy. Or an E63AMG (special order only) wagon. Also I'm sure there is some way to get an M5 wagon in the US if you throw enough money at the situation.

If you want a cruiser that will lay streaks then it's fun. If you want to autocross/trackday the car or take it out on twisty roads and have fun then I think you will find it lacking.

    Just my 2 cents.

That's funny that you say that about the size of the Mustang. The other there was one parked in my parking garage next to a Porsche 928. I always thought of the 928 as a pretty big car. The Mustang just dwarfed it.

    A 928 isn't small is it? It's all relative I guess.

What confuses me is how Ford could make the outside of the new Mustang so large and have the inside be so small. My head hits the roof in the mustang with my helmet on while I fit in an Elise just fine. Go figure.

    Dave,

I might have to use that reasoning to justify a Lotus to my wife?

Having a light car that handles well is far more important than power on a road course. Also, if you think you are going to bolt a blower on a V6 and still have better fuel economy than a naturally aspirated V8 you are kidding yourself and you engine wear is going to be much more rapid. If you want the Mustang go for it, but get the V8. If that isn't enough power then bolt on the blower and have some real fun.

I get you point completely as there is an Elise that is parked there sometimes and I'm just shocked at how small the Lotus is compared to pretty much everything, including the Harleys in the motorcycle stall. And no, I never really thought of the 928 as being a small car.

Those Lotus Elise's are wicked. Compact, extremely light, well balanced and a great engine from Toyota. One of my ex-coworkers had one in British racing green. I don't think you can get any closer to an actual race car coming off the showroom floor.

I think you can get closer with an Exige. Those are blast to drive assuming a) great roads and b) no traffic.

After about 20 minutes on the FDR from the battery / Tribeca up to the triboro bridge I was ready to get out and walk. Once I was out in the 'burbs of CT the thing had very high smiles-per-hour quotient. My wife, however, did not care for the step-over to get in, the racing harness, or the "sporting" nature of the car. I think a Cayman S / Boxster S gets you 90% of the fun with much greater comfort. They won't keep up on a track though, I'd imagine.

All of these are a far cry from an American two door with a V8 that can rip, though.

Ben you might look at a Boxster S or Cayman S if you can tolerate the total lack of backseat and storage space. I still salute the choice of a 'stang, however.

new mustangs are a blast. but i would not put a blower on that v6 without seeing what it's rated to hold, or until more aftermarket stuff comes out with it. especially the pcm tuning.

ford's new ecoboost v6 is quite a performer from the tests i've read about, it'll be interesting to see if that has longevity & reliability.

because you won't find a used 2011 mustang v6 and the older v6 was a 200hp piece of shit rent-a-car engine.

Nope. I never got un-enamored with the idea, but at the end of the day, it just seemed too stupid even for me.

Are you considering it? God, please say yes.

I had forgotten about the Terlingua, but yeah. Yes. That is awesome. And it's amazing how much better the Mustangs - particularly the V6s - are now compared to 2008. (No offense intended.)

I spent a lot of time driving an F-150 with a 3.5L EcoBoost V6 in it. Tons of horsepower, but massive, ridiculous, absurd amounts of torque. I want that in a sports car instead of a 5,800 pound 4WD truck.

I've heard rumors that the next iteration of the mustang will do away with the live axle. I'm not sure how I feel about this.

Did someone try comparing a 6 cylinder mustang with an M3?

No. Motor Trend compared a V8 Mustang to an M3, though. The link is in the OP.
