this girl absolutely rips. very cool and very impressive. skiing at this level is tough stuff and maintaining consistency aint easy. hope she can hold it together, a big ask for a 17 yr old!

My 14-year-old niece just took 2nd place in her first Junior Varsity race at Tahoe. I'm a stupid-proud uncle!

I blame teenage ski racing for ruining my interest in the sport. I used to crave 50+ days a year, now I'm fine with 5. Ok, I guess I also blame $80 day passes.

XC the morning, usually about a $40 half-day on the slopes (sometimes better if there's a promo going), ski wire-to-wire 12:30-4. The American Flatbread and Long Trail taste REALLY good after those days.

She's also funny as hell. One of the WC races she just won gives out a robe and a crystal crown to the winner, except somehow the crown got broken in the box before the ceremony. She said she was psyched to have her Halloween costume for next year, except she guessed she'd have to glue the crown back together.

I apologize for all my unabashed gloating, but after taking 2nd in her first race and 3rd (or 4th?) in her second race, my niece took first place in her third race! She's killing it!
