Question New Max tube set, anyone use it yet?

I'm wondering what weight rider this is ment for. Would this give a harsh ride in a larger (61-62cm) frame size for a rider @ 210lbs?

    I would say that's what it's for.

I would think that too, but will it ride like a vintage cannondale is the question. I have the possible choice of having a lugged Max frame or going with a Spirit lugged frame, and would like a "all day" ride....you know, vertically comfortable, but not whippy in the BB.

Question, are you building your frame, or is someone else?
If it's someone else, I'd suggest going with what they feel you need.
If it's you, I'd say go with the Max, at your size and weight. The Spirit for lugs is going to make a more flexible frame, but at 5'10" and 195, I'd ride that all day.
It won't ride like a vintage Cannondale, it'll ride really well (if properly designed) and you can always smooth the ride out a bit more with tire width and pressure.

You could get the best combo of weight, stiffness AND lugs by going with the UOS Columbus tubes from Mr Sachs.

    i ride a 56cm frame, weigh 190 or so

i find the MAX works well for me but ymmv - think of it as a rough-road frame that works well for big guys

Hi guys. These would be built for me by either Somec with the lugged Spirit or if Tommasini still has the lugs for the Max tubes, I could go that rout. I have a 61 cm De Rosa Primato built with EL OS and have no proble

I have a 61 cm De Rosa Primato built with EL OS and have no problem with flex. I have no clue about this Niobium material. I mean, the Nivacrom was the bomb for so long. Was it really worth the change for columbus?

Sounds like we're the same size. I've been on the fence about building a Spirit for lugs copy of my Waterford, or building a Max bike. The roads are so crappy where I live, I'm about to call Joe B and get some Max tubes.

Found this info below on Max tubing from Anvil bikes. I think now I feel comfortable in owning one.

We bi-axially ovalized and press-formed the UOS Pego-Richie stuff on the last steel road frame we made.
I think that's going to be what we stick with from now on.

That bike was about as awesome as a steel road bike can get...

It was hard to let that one go out the door...

90% of the steel road bikes I've sold are MAX. I like it because it doesn't twist and it feels "one piece" when you're diving into corners and stuff. It's solid ride makes it nice on any surface, especially paired with a modern carbon fork or a robust steel fork. The MAX blades are silly- we've used some segmented forks build with Reynolds MTB blades that have made for some real solid bombers.

I've been doing Max and Minimax for quite a few builds recently. I've personally got a Max road bike and a Minimax cross bike. To me, I can't tell the difference on the road between a Max frame and other frames with a 35 mm down tube and 31.8 mm seat tubes and top tubes. And similarly, I can't tell the difference between the Minimax frame and other frames with a 31.8 mm down tube and 28.6 mm seat tubes and top tubes. I use Zona or Life stays depending on the application. I like both bikes. I ride 54s. In terms of what weight they are "meant for", that's all subjective.

I just wanted to pass on that in my quest to find lugs for a Max frame build, I came up short handed. What ever is out there that is left, is in the hands of builders. You can get a nice lugged Max frame from this guy here Home - Rychtarski custom bicycles , or maybe from a builder on this forum?
