Stressing bamboo by exposing the tubes to hot and cold temperature is a great way to weed out the bamboos that want to crack, winter in NZ is a good time to do this. In addition to exposing the tubes to temperature change physically flexing the tube is another important procedure to help weed out the tubes that want to snap, crackle, pop.
