Last Thursday I grumped about how my garage had been crowbared open and three bikes stolen.

In the past week, due to the goodwill of the local cycling community, all but one of the bikes is back in my possession.

The only one that hasn't come back is my commuter, and it looks like insurance is going to pony up.

I hate driving to work, so when I noticed a passable looking commuter bike at my LBS on Wednesday afternoon I bought it.

After a couple days riding back and forth to work on the new bike I'm amazed at this bike I bought for less than the price of a decent rear wheel.

Bikes are awesome, and they don't have to be expensive to be really fun and fulfilling.

This morning before 7:40, I managed to
    - push out a strong 2x20 at the gym
    - have a delicious double espresso at Joe
    - and bump into a salonista who was headed out of town to ride bike; recognized his bike and asked him about it.

It was a good start to a good day.

Skipped out of work early today, got 3 hrs on the mtb, then sharpened the Briggs & Stratton scissors to give my toddler grass its first haircut.

    I kicked court's ass today.

Had to appear in response to a ordinance violation I received because the old lady across the street got it in her mind that her house wasn't selling because my lawn was too long. Not the fact that she's next to a low-income 7-unit apartment complex that gets to stare into her backyard. Not the fact that the house next to me is vacant, and the house next to that one is also vacant. Not even the fact that she's asking 141k on a block where the highest value home is only worth 2/3 that (Michigan!). It's my lawn that's causing her troubles.

    It went like this:

Judge: Why didn't you mow you lawn, son?
Me: Well, I was working at the bike shop, and it was summer, which is bigger than Christmas is for the rest of the retail world.
Judge: Yes, I understand, my bike was in for service for almost two months. Well, it's October now, so the grass isn't growing, but this isn't going to be a problem next summer is it?
Me: Well, no the house across from mine should be sold by then.
Judge, Bailiff, Steno, et al.:[chuckle, chuckle]

    All fines were waived.

Today is my 8-hour day. I'd forgotten about that until I was thinking about what time I could leave this afternoon. I got to work, after a VERY foggy ride in, half an hour early. Which means I can leave at 2 today. Hm... What to do with a little extra time? I think a longer route home is in order. Hopefully the fog will clear by then.

This weekend, my wife, and I, and a Parlee, and a Colnago, are going to Litchfield. And the kids are going to the grandparents and are so excited to sleep in bunk beds that they're out of their minds. And grandma and grandpa are thrilled to have them.

I believe we have achieved pareto optimality for happiness for this weekend.

I've got a date planned with the wife for tonight and tomorrow I drive with a good friend up to the hilly part of the state for my favorite road race of the year. A perfectly balanced weekend.

Friday was a good day. 30 miles on the mtb, taking in the beautiful fall colors

Taking my boy camping this weekend. Will be his first camping experience. Weather down here in Central FL has finally broken and we are expecting lows in the lower 50's where we are going to be camping. Good times...

Restarted my 1.5 mile walk to work again after the car went in for brakes and tires. I haven't done this in months. Twenty minutes through the St. Olaf Nature Area. My co-workers think I'm nuts when it's -10 degrees and it's both ways;) Personally I'm looking forward to it. Last year I used my snow shoes for the cummute at times. Thinking about this actually made my Friday

Where do you go? Any particular park? I've camped at ... Santos? I'd like to take my son up there as well soon and give it a shot with another friend/son combo.

I just received tentative approval to telework from Arizona 4 months a year, so that I can avoid the Virginia winters. Now I just need to build a house and will be Garro's next door neighbor....

Plans to set off early tomorrow morning for a meandering ride down thru the Blackstone Valley into Rhode Island and Maybe Connecticut. Nice Fall colors, beaucolic abandonded mill towns, seasonally spooky sights. I don't get many chances for the unfettered high-miles day out...but that's what is on deck for tomorrow. Pack up a couple of PBJ on whole wheat, coupla' bananas, water, sweater..and GONE.
