    Default Hot Wheels anyone?

Anyone here collect Hot Wheels? Up until_very_recently I was content with just a handful hanging in the garage. Don't know what changed but something broke loose somewhere (yesterday my kids and I went to 6 stores around town looking for them).

When it comes to cars - and maybe it's cause I grew up in Asia - what gets me all worked up is vintage Japanese iron. Don't get me wrong I think a '69 Camaro is cool and all, but I would take a Datsun 510 (especially a wagon), Nissan GT-R (Hakosuka), etc over one every time. Clearly my changes of actually owning a Hakosuka are less than zero, but given $1-$5, and a whole lotta patience I can have a pretty cool mini version, or a 510, AE-86, Datsun 620, RX-7, 240Z, BMW 2002, etc.

And finally the one that eludes me (and probably will forever considering the prices they're going for:

Anyone else have the Hot Wheels bug (for whatever cars your into)?

Dad worked for Chevrolet and got us kids hooked on bow ties. He's got a 70 Nova and a 70 Chevelle SS 454... older bro now owns my dads former 58 Fleetside... little sis has a 68 firebird... little bro a 53 gmc flatbed, 48 chev flatbed and a V8 (283) Fiero...and I have a 1955 210 2dr post in the shop, but nowadays I'd go black sheep in a heartbeat (pun intended) for a 510 wagon. Not sure what changed me.

When I was a kid, I must've had a half-mile of that orange track and the loop-the-loops. Start the cars at the top of the bunk beds, down the hall, down the stairs, out the door, down the porch, down the driveway and then off the ramp into the kiddy pool.

Never knew when Catzilla would spring out and knock the cars off the track.

I still have a box full of various toy cars from when I was a kid (I was obsessed with cars as a kid). Now I only buy them if it's a car I've had or am particularly fond of. I'm pretty sure I have a hot wheels Datsun 510 toy if ya gotta have it. But I won't part with the 2nd gen rx7 lol... I too am a big fan of Japanese cars having grown up on initial d, but these days I'm more of a BMW fan, biding my time until I find a titanium silver e36 m3 toy to match my car...

Our old school hardware store has a good model and toy car section. When I go in with the kids they usually get a freebie, usually a Hot Wheel. The kids like supercrazy fantasy cars. I picked up a BMW 2002 done up as a rally car.

I used to prefer Matchbox but the HotWheels selections seem better now.

I have most of the '68 Hot Wheels and some later ones. I also have a fairly extensive Matchbox collection. One of those things I should get rid of because it's not doing anything for me.

I don't "collect" per se, but I do have a few Hotwheels. A Datsun 510 on the desk at work and a BMW 2002 in the home office.

They were the two cars I lusted after as a teenager. Never driven either of them in real life!

^^ yeah there's no way I can afford to 'collect' but if it's an automobile I'm into it's in my sights.

Well I've got 7 of those Datsun 620s sitting here. I'm gonna try and custom paint a couple of them...and get watanabe's on them ;-)

Back in my day, Corgis were the good stuff. Hot Wheels were for staging crashes on the driveway.

Yeah, I had one of these.

I used to skip buying ice cream at lunch so I could get another Hot Wheels.
The bastards reissued a lot of the redline cars a while back. Have no idea why they felt compelled to do that, it was evil
