    Default Superbowl Chowdown

    Superbowl is one food-centric event I won't miss. This is when we remove all fears of #30 red dye, lather on the bacon fat and engage the PBR BAY-BEE.

    We are making SuperBowl sandwiches with sourdough bread. I'm going to stuff a turkey breast with something killer and BBQ it, cool it down than slice and reheat. Served with some ribs, slaw, chips, hot peppers and whatever guests bring. My pal makes a great Mac n' Cheese. Can't wait...for the teams to play ha.

    I'm originally from Buffalo, so we are doing the ethnic meal of the native people of that area. Chicken wings, pizza, and beer. I throw a Superbowl party every year, but it's a bunch of cyclists so they are more interested in who's singing in the halftime show.

    Not sure who we're watching it with, but I am already thinking chili, but maybe get a bit fancier with the meat:
    Short ribs + ground veal + ground beef?

    I'm bringing my soon-to-be famous sea salt and sriracha caramel popcorn. found it on a food blog, looks awesome.

    Cube up a nice looking piece of chuck. I do like you are going with the short ribs why not just short rib meat.

    my pulled pork will be what's happening. dry rubbed and smoked over hickory, oak and cherry for about 10 hrs. then put in a cooler to rest for about 2 hrs. then pulled and served.

    The pork looks awesome. Recently purchased a smoker, been perfecting my deer and goose jerky up until now. This weekend I'm going take my first shot at ribs.

    Going to friends house for 3 bushels of fat lynnhaven oyster. Will hose them down and throw them on the grill just long enough for them to pop.

    Not staying for the game just the pregame party!

    what type of rib? i prefer spares myself. more fat and more forgiving than babys. also more flavorful.

    Yes, spares, using top secret recipe dry rub concocted by my older brother. I think the only time I've even tried baby backs was at Chilis.

    Count me as another dry rub fan. Something about doing that a day or more in advance of putting it on the grill is magic.

    Jjmstang - It is the beginning of a new pre-superbowl tradition at mi casa. We play cutthroad around the world. Queen has a pretty wicked set shot....than the BBQ

    Well, I cooked the turkey breast. I like making it ahead letting it sit in the fridge for a day, it absorbs the spices and smoke soooo nicely. Boneless turkey breast was trussed up, heavily coated with salt, EVO and Herbs du' Provence. Cooked at 210/220F until instant thermometer reads 145 than off the grill, wrapped and let the internal temp come up to 160 (almost). I'll slice it cold and reheat for StuporBowl...uh I mean StonerBowl...uhhh sorry that was bad SuperDuberBowl...better.

    Ribs are heavily coated with a KC rub. This is how I do them and it's not how you do them but I promise they are great. Pics to follow. Ribs go onto a blazing hot grill 10 mins. per side than into the oven tightly wrapped at 325F for one hrs. than finished on the grill to crisp them up. You'd NEVER know they were not cooked low and slow for ages and trust me this is just as good. Part of the secret is to semi-cure the meat with the dry rub which sits on the meat for 24 to 48 hrs.

    Also, slow cooking Kelibasa in dark beer for a"finger food" heh.

    Diet begins immediately after Denver wins.
