Default Dropouts, cable stops, fd tab, bottle bosses... from a single manufacturer?

I would like to get a lug-less, welded frame built by a local framebuilder. The frame will be made from Columbus Spirit tubes. Per default, that local framebuilder uses some hideously ugly (IMHO) braze-on parts. For example:

    NOV_4041_NEW-06.jpgNOV_305R_NEW-06.jpgnov_ergo_1new-06.jpg

They may suit ye olde lugged frame well. But I think they look very wrong on modern, compact geometry, lug-less steel frames.

Therefore I would like to find some more beautiful alternatives which I will supply to the framebuilder. Perhaps I am too OCD about this, but I would strongly prefer to have all small parts made by one, single manufacturer.

So far, it seems that Paragon Machine Works has most of the parts. And I quite like their down tube cable stops. But they do not have front derailleur tabs. Do you know any other shop who manufactures all parts?

If you really want a modern look, the FD tab is technically "outdated." I like to used them though, and it's Sachs or nothing. Although the one from Joe look nice too Cast Frame Components

Paragon really is the best in the states. Ceeway has a lot of options in the UK and shipping isn't that bad, but I usually order more than just a few BO's

I don't think you're going to get all your braze ons from a single manufacturer. In fact, most suppliers get the braze ons they sell from different manufacturers. Places like Ceeway and Nova are basically just warehouses, they don't make anything afaik.
As close as you'll get is a place like Paragon or Design Engineering (which I don't think sells onsies and twosies. They do bulk)

FYI if you are looking for the Silva stuff, Andy from Strawberry sells a lot of there cast parts over at Welcome to Torch and File - Framebuilding Tools and Supplies. Most of the stuff is stocked in his Portland shop too.

    Thanks for the plug.
But why do you say that bit about the technically "outdated" stuff?
I'd like to think I'm in the know, and don't know what you do.

i dont see how a FD tab is dated really... i see it as part of a high quality bicycle,

nowadays there are many carbon fibre bicycles that have no choice but to have the tab, if it was dated...would they not have stopped making braze on mechs long ago ?

IMO the brazeon tab is one of the more future-proof methods of mounting a front derailleur - has anyone tried to find a 28.6 Campy FD lately?

    Richie,
I put it in quotes because it's not what I personally think, it was more directed towards some of the "modern" influences coming from manufacturability. Drop the FD tab, drop one step in the process, and so on. I'm not saying this is always the case, and may not be what happened to the tab over the years, it's just the first thing I thought of...a little automation engineers joke I guess.

If you drop the tab from one process you add a clamp to another atmo.

Ironically, he sells neither torches, or files. It just struck me as amusing, not a dig against Andy.

I think this would be a more appropriate question for your builder. If he's a builder, he should have access to or knowledge of all the outlets for parts.

If you are intent on selecting all the little braze-ons you want, then I wouldn't worry about where they come from. Let the builder source them out.
