Can you tell me what's up with the grey drop-outs faces I am seeing on your frames? Looks like raw media blasted steel?
Thanks, hope to see you at Ballers.
Noah
They grey is the primer exposed. I mask this before color and clear coats to create an edge so the QR skewer won't bit into any clear coat and start some peeling action and help protect any exposed steel, for a little while at least. Removing the old TT not too hard. Figuring out the miter to miter distance +clean up + figuring out the original geometry =PITA! But the look on his face when he picks it up, priceless. Baller's is a GO! Looking forward to that climb in George Wash. state forest!

Faster almost, but from what I understand this frame was kinda like a family heirloom to him. So replacing it with a new one would have added even more grief for the entire situation. Honestly I'm happy he trusted my skills to do the repair and now his prized possession is back on the road. Everybody wins! See you again at Baller's?

Love that orange!
HEAT! Fluxed it up good. The flux is my indicator that things are ready to separate when heating the entire lug with a rosebud tip. The flux turns nice and glassy then just beyond that your ready to do work. Gently pulling on the existing tube but without rocking it in order not to distort the lugs socket. After soaking off the flux the lugs are sanded just like a new build preparation. Luckily this was a silver brazed frame so everything is low temp. Canal trail was good last night btw, good to see a bunch of riders out!

Cool, thanks for the description.
Yeah man the trail was GREAT last night, super grippy. Got cold quick though, forecast said it would be 43ish at 8 - it was actually 35, I was underdressed. Always nice to catch a glimse of your mean grean MTB machine.

Why do people feel the need to list all of their bikes in their signature?

Re: Zukas Cycles
Nate, I look forward to meeting you at NAHBS and getting better acquainted w your work. I chased a greenish Zukas XC SS for several miles during a very rainy Red Clay Ramble last August and it was a beauty - too bad I couldn't keep up. I'll make sure to introduce myself and hopefully meet dgaddis too.

Re: Zukas Cycles
The paint progression over the last 12 months has be awesome. This frame and last weeks 'Ferrari' are so good. I wish I had the coin to shorten my short list of must haves.

Where does one get one of those shirts? There's still at least 1 day a week where I'm not wearing a builder tee.

I can't make the show, but I'll send a check...your mailbox is full, so PM any details. No rush since I bet you're slammed getting ready for the show.
