The 'Randonneur Chair'

After a week of no sleep, the spilling of blood, sweat and a few tears I finally gave birth to my first frame (of sorts!).
I've got big plans for a range of bicycle inspired furniture in a similar vain (once I've worked on my fillet brazing skills!)

Inspired by classic hand-built racing and touring bicycles, the 'Randonneur Chair' is handcrafted from Reynolds 631 steel tubing, Sapele hardwood and bicycle saddle leather courtesy of Brooks England. Using bicycle geometries and traditional frame-building techniques, it is both a celebration of cycling and of bespoke British craftsmanship. The rocking motion evokes the feeling of delight that riding a bicycle gives.

In this day and age of oversized carbon fiber runners, titanium stretchers, and even electronic rocking(!), it's really cool to see a good old fashioned steel framed chair.

I've heard that when made with thin-wall tubing, the rocker can get into a certain "groove" or "rhythm" where the rocker's effort is in sync with the chair and is actually more efficient for some sitters than a more modern monocoque carbon model.
