Default Kitchen Appliances: Manual and Electric

Somethings are enduring and seemingly forever. When we got married I bought a new Kitchenaid stand mixer and when mom moved in with us she passed on our family Kitchenaid stand mixer that was a good 30 yrs. old and I've since given that mixer to our cousins who bake...alot. With that said....

My food processor broke. A stupid non-replaceable plastic piece grrrrr. This is as close as I could find to what I had: Cuisinart DFP-14BCN Stainless Steel 14-cup Food Processor
I NEVER should have given away my old kitchen aid food processor.

    Anyone have a Vitamix?

I have a Kitchenaid blender and it's a champ. But I've heard you can do even more with a Vitamix.

Yep. Had that for at least 12 yrs. it could powder rocks. Think of it as a blender with a V8. It has High/Low speed with a variable speed dial. The blade speed is high enough that it is capable of breaking down plant cell walls and emulsifying...I bought it for doing light lab work...turns out it makes great Gazpacho too ;)

There is a whole thread - or probably even a sub-forum here on Vitamix and Blendtec. It will crush your Kitchenaid blender. You can probably put your old Campy parts in a Vitamix and turn them to dust to sprinkle their ashes along your favorite roads you've ridden together.

My Grandma got two matching Kitchenaid mixers some time before I could remember, "because you just never know..."

The spare has been passed around the family since she passed away over 15 years ago. I'm not sure if it's been needed because most everyone already had their own. Maybe one of my young cousins got it. That would be cool.

Now. Is there any handheld can opener that does not suck? One you can run through the dishwasher to keep it from getting grotty would be nice.

Swing-Away... but they still rust sometimes if the hinge is left closed while wet. The gold standard.

Zyliss Lock 'N Lift Can Opener for $16.00 is the best manual I've ever used. Very light effort is required to operate. Cleaning instructions say wipe with damp cloth and that works for me.

Rosle make the best of most any kitchen hand tool I've used. Way out of our price range but not for our wedding guests.

this and a vacuum bag machine will change how you cook forever.
I turned my mom on to sous vide cooking and its pretty full proof. I can go into greater detail if someone would like me too.

My grandmother's mixer is still going strong. I think it's been in service for 60 years. It needs a new gasket, kinda, and the glass is etched, but my wife uses it to make a smoothie every day. The motor sounds like a Lionel train engine and makes the same ozone smell too. It will probably outlive me.
