Default Breakfast Go-Tos: Let's Have 'Em

What are your reliables for a nutritious, cyclist-friendly breakfast that are easily and quickly prepared? Let's hear em.

    My recent addiction:

    1 cup slow cooking oats
    1 cup blueberries
1 to 1.5 cups water (depends on the brand of oats and the texture you like)

Put in microwave on high for 3min

While the oats and berries are microwaving, chop 1 apple, 1 banana, measure 1/4 cup whole milk, 1 tbsb peanut butter, 1 tsp cinnamon, 1 1/4 to 1/2 inch piece of fresh ginger; then puree all together.

Fold smoothie mixture into oats and blueberries. Microwave for 1 more minute on high.

Total prep and cook time is 7-8 minutes. ~750 calories.

Porridge works very well for me before the rides.

3/4 cup of HC (the ones that don't melt!) rolled oats, touch of cinnamon, dash of milk.
Microwave for 1min - stir (may add 1 banana) -microwave for 1min.
Stir and add a few spoon of yogurt.

    Then go and smash it!

Granola + milk + berries or banana slices. The hippie store near me has really good granola.

Granola with milk and fruit most days. Sometimes I really just want a huge bowl of cheerios, though.

Jeez... Just pass me the Cinnamon Toast Crunch and some milk, and I'm good to go. My pantry is the envy of every 5th grader.

Banana and stinger waffles on the bike. Maybe a bowl of cereal if I feel motivated to "make" something. Sometimes toast with peanut butter.

This is pre-work, early bird, breakfast. Post ride is a whole different ball game.

    The night before, drop

    1/2 cup oats
    1/2 cup greek yogurt
    2/3 cup water
    1 tbsp flaxmeal
    1 pinch salt

into a mason jar. The next morning, add fruit, nuts, brown sugar (or maple syrup) or whatever else, and take to-go.

Try fresh ground almond butter and honey and prepare to lose your mind.*

*Maybe an exaggeration, but it's an awesome combo. My go to afternoon/post-ride/post-race/anytime snack.

    Before a <30mi morning ride - nothing.

Upon return, I fry one egg over easy freckled with some hot sauce, pour some chocolate almond milk over bowl of Marshmallow Mateys/Honey Buzzers/Chocolate Dyno Bites (whatever's in the pantry), then wash it down with the entire contents of a 6-cup (i.e. one cup) moka pot.

Off days' breakfast is a handful of Costco Kirkland chocolate chips and a couple clementines.
