My youngest turned 11 last week so we went fishing. Was able to get the boys into a good wiper bite, it was a blast, they fight so hard.Wiper 2015 Ike.jpg

That is the perfect eating size striper! That fish produces the perfect size and thickness fillets for blackening!

ATMO there is nothing better than a gaffer dolphin. Jumps like a marlin, eats like a striper!

Never had the chance to fish saltwater, some day man, some day...

The fish we caught are wiper, hybrid white bass/striper. Limit is only 2 each as they don't reproduce, or not very well on their own. We normally only keep one if it's gut hooked and won't make it. Otherwise it's back in the lake for another day's catch. They fight so hard, so much fun.

    I was wondering!

I thought that was one bad-ASS white bass!

In my experience they are very different activities. Fresh water is more laid back, calm and tranquil. Some saltwater can be the same if fishing in a calm inlet, the shore or a pier. Too often when you are in a boat (any size) in fairly open water, it can be more like a battle. Man Vs. Nature type of thing.

The payoff is often greater in size and even quantity, but if you don't catch anything it feels like you took an A$$ whopping for nothing.

The Offshore thing is a total risk. Basic cost is $2400 for 6 people. Good chance 1 of the 6 will be sea sick and never leave the cabin for the 12 hours you are out. We ended up paying about $40 a pound for our cleaned fillets when all said and done. Most of the fleet went looking for catch and release Marlin and came back with nothing. Only 2 Marlins were landed all day.

When I was fishing heavily in my mid 20's to 30's I was down with the battle. These days not so much. I only went because my Doctor Bro-inlaw was footing most of the bill.

When fishing but caught no fish. Discovered that my Diawa Millionaire 3H needed drag washers. The internet was no help. E-bay? Parts reel? Nope. A real tackle shop, Pete's Just Fishing in Torrance near Redondo had a packaged washer set that matched my 30 Year old reel. Akin to finding hoods for Shimano

Hell yea, cookietruck!!! That's a fish.

Went out last night and wore out some lake trout, took out the kayak and pulled in a mess of 20-24", perfect for smoking.

This beast likes catfish bait. Looks kinda of small in the photo, but that's a full-sized industrial trash can that he's in. Hissed like a tomcat.

Thanks for digging this thread up!

Been a slow year as we had a dry spring, but got some nice bass recently.

Few of the highlights from this summer, Lake Mille Lacs, MN. Almost 21" smallie and a couple decent pike, 27" and 32". All the walleye caught were short.

Company fishing trip this past weekend in Port Aransas, TX. First time for me to go out off-shore...and first time to go fishing in 20+ years. Been about that long since I've been on a boat, as well. We were something like 20mi out, and had 3 boats. Multiple people got sick on each boat...luckily I was not one of them. I thought the water was rough as hell (7'-ish swells), but apparently the day before was much worse.

Our boat caught the fish below. I managed that big King Fish. I was proud of my accomplishments till someone from another boat unloaded a 5.5' barracuda. Those things have teeth. Gnarly teeth. In all we got something like 150lbs.

Our guide took us right up next to a tanker trying to get a Ling. That's the 3rd picture. He had it at one point, but it got away.

Pretty fun trip. Got me all anxious to get home in order to dig out my old rod and reel.

Was in Maine earlier this month and my dad and I finally got the tackle set back up and my brother in law and I took the kids fishing. We caught a bunch of itty bitty mackerel and pollack and the boys had a ton of fun. They ate most of them and were telling fish stories about their exploits almost immediately! Maybe there will be a bluefish run again one of these years.
