Jim, it's a custom mongrel from eBay (see link below). I think the seller would gladly make another like it. He has a similar watch among his other items.

ha, i just asked the same privately across the hall!

Vlad - how does that crown operate being recessed like that, how do you "grab" it?

Its not a screw-down crown, you hook it underneath with your nail and pull.

Edit: it's got a stock SKX dial but is nowhere near 200 meter resistant. Shower and light swim sure....diving not so much...

Gift from the wife. Really like it, looking at multiple band options.

I need to correct myself here ...

I wear most of my watches on Mil-Series straps, like the ones sold here: CountyComm - Maratacâ„¢ "Mil Series" Bands

These things are inexpensive, good looking, comfortable and easy to keep clean and without all of those distracting rings on NATO and Zulu bands.

I still have the one that came on my Navy issued Benrus Type II from 1981. It has seen waters and woods from Hawaii to Libya (crossed the "line of death" several times underwater - Eff you Gadaffi) and many places in between and still sees regular duty today.

It's tough to beat the look of a nice leather strap and yours is a nice one.

    (My wrist hair photo below)

Jason is right. The crown has two positions -- the first is quick-set for day (I'm contemplating the French version) and date, the second is for time. The watch is quite small, which is a very good thing because I have puny wrists. The watch finally arrived yesterday. The ebay seller has another identical one on auction now.

Nice. Just before the holidays I bought myself an orange dial version of this exact watch.
I wasn't in love with the bezel but I've found that it's better in person.

    Hi everyone,
There are some lovely watches here. I have 2 Breitlings. One is an automatic Chronomat and the other a Colt. I have a few low end watches for sport and play. I would like to get something mid range that is sporty. If any of you are thinking of selling a watch in the 1K range I would appreciate you contacting me. My email is tpolitzer@msn.com
    Thanks,
    Tom

The Alpinists are nice watches. Think of them as a step above something like an SKX. 6R15 power under the hood which I'm a big fan of and a sapphire crystal...which not even a MM300 has. Seiya has an excellent reputation and is THE source for new hard to find JDM models. That said they don't give any deals and iffins it were me I'd keep my eyes open for a used one...but that's me - ymmv ;-)

Edit: Don't misunderstand my dig at the MM300 lacking a sapphire as saying the Alpinists are on on the same level...they aren't!
