Well Suzy hasn't been here for almost five years but this piece in "The Conversation" today reminded me: How CSIRO is turbocharging the worlds largest radio telescopes.
For those who don't know, Suzy's day job is building the receivers they're talking about.

I know enough about RF electronics to be in awe of the stuff Suzy does, but I'm strictly a 20Hz to 20 kHz guy.

As an example of the stuff they're dealing with, to get the 10^11 timing accuracy mentioned you have to take care of things like the trace lengths on the PCB, even at the speed of light 10^-11 seconds is a few millimetres.

The telescope stuff is wild cool. I knew some fellows involved in HAARP (through the ham hobby). Those big telescopes, things like HAARP and the massive VOA type curtain arrays are all neat engineering.
