    Default Gasfluxer info

We've been thinking about setting up the brazing station with a gasfluxer. Had a really informative conversation with the main guys who make and sell gasfluxers here in the UK. I had a bunch of questions and one of my concerns was gunking up the the fuel line. He says it's a common problem but the solution was to use a propane hose from the fluxer to the torch instead of an acetylene hose. Apparently the acetylene hoses are slightly porous and this somehow causes a buildup of gunk in the hose while the non-porous propane hose prevents this.

This might be common knowledge, but it was new to me so thought it might be worth passing on.

Ask Andrew Denham, at The Bicycle Academy. they use Gas Fluxers in their workshop in Frome, Somerset. I did the fillet brazing master class there, and was very tempted to get a gas Fluxer. Though I am now replicating the results with normal paste on flux, so will save the expense for now (~£1200 apparently). I will be interested to know how you get on though. (btw lovely off road bike at Bristol, grats on winning the category; my eye though was on the white one on the right of your stand, <drool>)

Bleed out the the line nightly, too. Part of what happens is the acetone breaks down the line from the inside. It can take years, at low volume use, but it's worth keeping an eye on. When things get crusty, swap them out.

    Hi Steven,

Here in the states they are "R" hoses or "T" hoses. T hoses are multi-fuel rated. I don't know if it is the same over there. T hoses do stand up longer to a gas fluxer but not forever. Like Eric said, bleed them and I have a sacrificial leader hose from tank to fluxer and then from fluxer to light weight hoses.

At BF I would replace hoses every 6-8 months. At Winter I am going strong 6 years on, and will likely swap in another 2. It's all about volume and build up.

    Hey there,
Does anyone know where to find a manual for the gasfluxer model 69?

I have the DVD if you'd like to borrow it, may even have the manual too.

I run 3ft of hose from the Gasfluxer to a coupler, connected to the rest of the hose. I noticed that the first couple of feet got nasty much faster than the rest, so I set it up to make that section replaceable.

Yes to the sacrificial hose section. I'll add that I do the same with the O hose, only to keep both hoses the same length. Or should I say this is what I did many years ago when I used the fluxer. Still have it and one day will install it again in one of my two set ups. Andy.

That would be great! I'm going to have to take this thing apart and I'd like to have it handy just in case!

Cole- When I was using a gas fluxer I found the Gas Flux co to be very open to calls and helping me out. I lived in Cleveland at the time and their area salesman delivered my unit in person with some flux and C-O4 rod as samples (which I already was using). Later I sent the unit back for their cleaning and rebuild.

I have heard that steam cleaning cuts through the residue rather quickly BTW. Andy
