Here in Australia the cooler regions produce wonderful Pinot (Adelaide Hills, Yarra Valley, Mornington Peninsula, Gippsland and Tasmania). NZ also produce some terrific Pinot. With Burgundy, you are probably looking at $AU120 before you hit a really good Pinot, so that is starting to price things out of reach.

Do you trust the source of the second bottle? Counterfeiting remains a major problem in the Italian food, drink and luxury trade.

In general, Barbaresco is a wine to drink, not cellar. Thus my earlier point the vintage I so enjoyed is increasingly hard to find.

I'd go with the theory it wasn't properly stored before accepting that conclusion, which was my leading theory by the way. Vietti barbaresco counterfieted? i doubt it.

But nothing will ever compare to the two days spent wine tasting with friends in Chablis and Beaune, France. Almost all were whites, but wow, wow, wow. My wife and I both thought about leaving our S&S bikes behind and just filling the bike cases with all the wine we could fit.
Like I said, this thread needs pics.

Since you mentioned Erath Estate Pinot:

    Sure, Occam's Razor.

But, it does not take much to glue a label to a bottle of vinegar. And of course so much of Italian olive oil sold in the US is rape seed. If the volume is there, you don't need to have that much margin to make it worthwhile.

Colene Clemens Dopp Creek. Good but nowhere near as good as the Margo, or Adriane

I had a glass of '14 La Crema at a local wine bar last night; unusual because US wine is rare here, being regarded as poor value for money.

Interesting wine: obviously grown in a warm area and quite bretty (IMO all too common in California), but a decent drink nonetheless.

Purple Hands WV 2015. Delicious and under $30. I'm a club member of PH and Cody's single vineyard bottlings are wonderful. The WV is a blend of 6 vineyards and is worth getting if you can find it.

This one took awhile. It had to breathe and by the time I had drank the first glass it had mellowed out. I do like the colder climate vintages.

    Winderlea.
There's an area of Dundee that runs along Worden Hill Rd. Fletcher and I discovered it by bike. On this slope of some really Jory soil (they dont call it Red Hills for nothing) sits Winderlea Vineyard, kinda right in-between 2 of my favorites; Arterberry Maresh and Cameron. This is a long time viticultural area and the vines in this area are very old. The old Goldschmidt vineyard (now Winderlea) dates back to 1974.

Being a lover of Pinots, I like them all. The big fruity ones and the colder climate mineraly ones. 2013 was a cold climate year.
I do like the Weber vineyard bottling of this vintage better, but this one is no slouch. Lots of up front fruit; raspberry and cherry with a hint of cranberry tartness. Mid palate brings minerals and a dank earthiness that is not spicy or tannin but there is some tobacco and clove in there. It finishes softly and lingers on your tongue.
