I am of a certain age that requires me to question my bike purchases. I got into cycling later in life (55) and have only had metal (steel and an old Lemond ti) with carbon forks. Never a steel fork. For those that know more than me, which is most of you, what am I gaining or giving up switching from carbon ENVE to a fork made by the Hampco folks?

Looks are a consideration of course.

Half a million views - cool! I know I contributed to that number.

OK, though, have to offer one bit of criticism on that bike just posted. The headtube is huge compared to the fork steerer and the transition really looks whack to me. Maybe a tapered headtube would've worked better - for me, anyway. Otherwise, quite sweet.

That's an etap build, Steve, yes? If so, here's a quick Q for you. The wifli etap RD is rated to 32 teeth cogs. Any idea if you've been able to run 34T cogs with that RD? Am thinking about etap for the S&S ti SB you built for me (Max-built), but would like to be able to run a 34.

    Thanks!

I think we can agree to disagree on the HT transition - I think it looks fine - and it does give my customer the option of using a tapered fork down the road if he chooses.

And I'll say that you can probably get the 34 to work. We build our frames with slightly longer der hangers which should give a little reach, shifter-wise.

That is a proper looking purple bike. Very easy on the eyes and love the white tape/cable housing. Well done.

Bad timing going to the gangsta look with cooler and wet weather ahead.

Instead, slapped the rain wheels and fenders back on and found a “Fall” season colored tape :)

That’s it for 2017 tape changes til’ spring- sorry no red and green next month ;)

You guys poured the koolaid and I drank it. New fork from the mother ship has been installed and ridden. I am beyond excited with the look and ride. I told Steve I wanted a splash of white and he said “No you don’t”. He was right. The touch of red looks great.

    Ride repot to follow.

You've just gotta love Steve Hampsten. How many people has Steve saved from themselves? HampCo towers is like the Vatican of framebilding.
