So my macchina is toast due to calcification. Hard water here and apparently a Brita doesn't cut it when it comes to getting the minerals out. Short of full-blown home filtration systems, what are people doing to ensure their water doesn't ruin their espresso machine internals?

Folks, is there such a thing as good tasting decaf? I love me some coffee/espresso during the work day but I'm finding that it's making me a bit too jittery.

I always thought that dark roast had less caffeine than medium or light roast but apparently that's not the case. So with that in mind, I prefer a medium to light roast.

Oh wow. When the Georgetown U campus shuttle bus whizzes by it used to smell like french fries. Will this bus smell like espresso. The bus will boast a trail of YUPPIES in shatters.

a little late, but Crystal Geyser bottled water is often recommended, so that's what I've been using. I was hesitant at first, thinking it was $$ bottled water, but it's like $1/ gal, so nothing over the top.

I didn't know where to post this but here I go. Don't judge me for the shortcomings of my in-laws and SO...they love the flavors. I've found these to be excellent in this case and these are often offered at 20-25% off. Don't use the prescribed amount or they'll choke...1/3 will do nicely.

Rw, you have so much gastro good will banked at this place that you could post pictures of Taco Bell and you’d still have plenty of cred.

^ thanks M...I'm just trying to keep our small and demanding group of coffee perfectionists grounded as it's good to remind ourselves how the 99% ers enjoy their java. "Say no to syrup" and go with the powder if one has to flavor the drink, is what I tell my in-laws.

I can’t speak to how it may or may not affect your machine, but my tap water goes into my Big Berkey and from there I use it for drinking, cooking, coffe brewing, etc.

I love that. The first time I saw a Starbucks in Paris my thought was almost nothing they serve qualifies as "coffee" and their espresso is sub par compared to every espresso at every other bar in town. How does this work????
